Great selection of food, but... read more Visited Penleys Café mid-afternoon, avoiding the lunchtime rush. Very relaxed atmosphere, felt homely with friendly, helpful staff. Great selection of food, but being lunchtime I went for a club sandwich and chips. Wow, what a meal that turned out to be. Finished off with a gorgeous home-made carrot cake. Absolutely delicious fare at a very reasonable price. I live some 50miles away but anytime I 'm in this area this lovely cafe will be my top choice for refreshment. Well done Penleys, and thank you.

Took a while for someone to com... read more I was so disappointed with this place today. We came for lunch about half 2. It was quite busy but we got a table straight away. Took a while for someone to come and clear it but the staff had already given us menus so we perused what was on offer. We had about 45 mins before we had to get the car so we only ordered sandwiches. A family of 4 had come in on the next table after us but their food (4 cooked meals including an all day breakfast bap) not only came first but they had finished their meals and there was still no sign of our 2 sandwiches. We decided we had to go or risk getting a ticket. When we explained why we were leaving and would only be paying for our drinks we were told Oh but the tickets are done in order. No they are not! I've worked in hospitality and the fact alone that the tables weren't cleared (we weren't the only ones) is just not acceptable. But then having to argue with the staff that we had been waiting for over half an hour also not acceptable. The food looked and smelled awesome but sadly we never got to find out. There were approx 4 waiting staff on so I really don't understand how this happened. Raise your game! Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch
