What Derek Johnson doesn't like about Old Southern Bbq Smokehouse Rice Lake:
I was a once a week regular customer at the Rice Lake location. Always ordered the same thing. Just added another meat but paid extra. Which wasn’t cheap. My last visit the lady at the counter was confused and asked the “GM” for help. He refused my request even after explaining that I pay extra. I don’t care what his title is I am the customer! Charge me the usual $8 or whatever extra pay by the pound for pork) price... View all feedback.
Here's a detailed account of my culinary experience: 1. The brisket was disappointing; it was cold and too dry to enjoy. 2. The ribs were the least enjoyable I've ever tasted. They were overcooked, very dry, and lacked flavor. My cousin and I couldn't even finish them, and we definitely didn't want to take any home. 3. The mac and cheese didn't live up to expectations and tasted more like plain noodles and breadcrumbs than anything special. 4. The cornbread had a mix of positives and negatives. While it had great flavor, the edges were burnt, which was unfortunate. 5. On a positive note, the pulled pork was well-cooked and tasty. 6. The mashed potatoes were a highlight, offering a wonderfully delicious and flavorful side. 7. One standout aspect of the meal was the impressive variety of sauces, particularly the hot barbecue sauce, which was my favorite. In conclusion, based on my experience, I would be hesitant to recommend this restaurant unless you’re specifically looking to enjoy the pulled pork. The inconsistency in the quality of the other dishes overshadowed the otherwise pleasant service and atmosphere.
The food and service were excellent. However, the atmosphere feels a bit like a strip mall. I preferred the Hayward location, but unfortunately, it has closed down. As for parking, there's free parking available in the strip mall lot. They do offer a kids' meal, but unfortunately, they only have soda instead of milk. The venue is wheelchair accessible, as it is a single story with designated handicap parking.
Vegetarian options: Since this is a BBQ joint, it's primarily geared toward meat lovers. Parking: Ample parking is available in the shopping mall parking lot. Kid-friendliness: What kid doesn't enjoy eating messy food with their hands? Wheelchair accessibility: The aisles are spacious enough to accommodate wheelchairs.
Hey you, yes the one reading this review. Do yourself a favor and get in a vehicle, bicycle, run, walk..I don't care if you have to take a pogo stick to get to Old Southern Smokehouse. Get there and eat. You deserve it. The Brisket Sandwich changed my life it's that good.I was on my way to divorce court and really needed a good meal. My soon to be ex-wife smelled the Brisket on me and we are now back together.10/10
Love this chain, this one is no exception. Built my own bbq bowl. Recommend the hot link.
