Popped into here for a quick break. Next to Melbourne Central. Lots of seats, good coffees, a range of cakes pastries at a reasonable price, and good service. I'll happily go there again. View all feedback.
What Lukas Kluge doesn't like about Spiga Restaurant:
We attended on a Thursday night for a business dinner. We had good service and good food. On the night we attended they where out of lamb and after one glass of Riesling they were out. They also started packing up at about 8:30. A couple in our group had steak which was cooked well to order. I had spaghetti spiga which was nice. View all feedback.

This is a vey good place for a coffee and a quick breakfast try the egg wrap) near Melbourne Central Station this is the place to stop before getting lost in town
We had a great coffee (Genovese) and breakfast special here whilst in Melbourne. The food, coffee, service and value were all very good.
I work near Spiga so after a late finish I went to Spiga for dinner. I ordered a prawn pasta that was ok but pretty much tasteless. My partner ordered porterhouse steak strips that came with potatoes and veg the steak was ok, the brocc and cauli were ok, but there was no potato, (we forgot that it was supposed to have potato until we grabbed the menu to check the prices when we were going to pay the bill), it was also served with some lettuce leaves with no dressing on it. It was a bland meal that I could have made so much nicer at home. It looked ordinary and the taste matched. I told the staff member that my partner got no potato and he said yes . That was it. We paid the bill and it hurt me to do it because I could not believe how ordinary the food was (approx $26 for each dish). There are so many great restaurants in Melbourne so I just cannot believe this place thinks it can charge these prices for the **** they dish up in fact the steak dish looked so ordinary I would not have taken it out to a customer in the first place. They have lost my business (buy a lot of coffee there) and I certainly will not be recommending them to my workmates. I think this restaurant really needs to review whatever is going wrong whether it be the food, cooks, prices etc.
I recommended my friend to have lunch at Spiga today although I had already eaten brunch earlier, also at Spiga. She could have her lunch while I had a coffee. My friend ordered the $15 special. She asked me to have one of her bruschetta as she wanted to leave room for her main course. After I finished consuming it, the waiter insisted that we now needed to order a 2nd meal for another $15!!! (He must be watching us very closely! . If we didn't, we would still need to pay for 2 meals!!! He was very insistent even though I told him I ate at his restaurant earlier and cannot possibly eat another full meal. He would not let go. We left, very unhappy and absolutely disappointed, without completing her meal, and paid $15 for two slices of bruschetta. I guess someone else ate her salmon risotto. Spiga made a bit more money, but lost out on the multiplier effect (lots more money gained from positive word of mouth. The menu does not note that the $15 special is the price per person; it does not note that individuals cannot share their food. The restaurant needs to clearly highlight on the menu the conditions attached to their special at least for the benefit of unsuspecting tourists who may not be attuned to the Australian custom.
