What User doesn't like about Fergusson Plarre Bakehouse - Coburg:
I have long been an admirer of the Plarre's bakery and have dined in on a number of occasions in different locations. This time I bought a family sized beef pie to take home for dinner. It was a good size for the price and its filling was firm and consisted of finely ground beef. It was good value for money, but nothing fancy. View all feedback.
Located at the bustling intersection of Bell St and Sydney Rd in Melbourne, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse is renowned for its delectable cakes and pies. I frequently visit during lunch hours for a satisfying meal of freshly-made sandwiches and coffee. The quick service and quality of both the coffee and sandwiches never disappoint.
One of the busiest shops in Coburg is Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse. They are well-known for their pies and pasties, referred to as 'Tiddly Oggies'. Their beautifully decorated 'special occasion' cakes are also a standout. It's a popular spot for lunch, and their small cakes pair perfectly with a cup of coffee.
This restaurant used to be a fantastic spot to enjoy fresh, made-to-order meals at a great price, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. The shop has reduced in size, and now the sandwiches are pre-made. While they still offer the option to customize your meal, when I called in, they had run out of bread and could only offer meat and cheese sandwiches. I ended up choosing a pastie, which was tasty, but the sauce came from a pre-packaged container. The food was served on a paper plate with only a plastic fork provided, making it difficult to eat without a knife to cut it into smaller pieces.
Ferguson Plarre have been making Tiddly Oggies for over 100 years. Tiddly Oggie is Cornish for a proper pasty. Pasties are made of good beef, carrots, potato and onions, in a pastry shell. They are a great hunger stopper. The Ferguson Plarre shop has been on the corner of Bell Street and Sydney Road for many years. I often drop in for lunch when I 'm in the area. By the way, they now make a vegan friendly tiddly oggie.
Most of these franchises have done away with sandwiches, but this one will still make what you want, to order. The locals like having the choice and getting what they want rather than something pre-packed. I had a salad roll and a coffee. The coffee was nothing special, but my roll was exactly what i wanted and reasonably priced.
