As a family of 4 we bough 6 different pie/pasties and 4 Sweet. Not one on the bad list will recommended for morning tea stop.
Stopped into the Pieman's Bakery for a last chance feed of iconic South Australian food and was happy that I did. Ordered a Cornish Pasty and a Kitchener Bun after a little bit of a wait (they were doing a decent trade on a Thursday morning) and then sat down and tucked in. The pasty was one of the best I've had (proper filling) with a good crust. The Kitchener Bun had fresh cream and a dash of fresh strawberry jam (there were others on offer with apricot and no jam)...after this feed I was full and ready to hit the road. Would recommend no worries.
We spent 4 nights in the Riverland. In Renmark we needed nourishment at lunch time and this bakery was nearby. We both had a pasty and an iced coffee. The pasty looked good, but it was disappointing, very wet inside that spoilt the texture. A good pasty must be moist, but not wet inside. It's unlike me not to finish an average pasty, but half went in the bin. I would not return. Perhaps I should have had a pie.
Nice to find some different vegetarian options. I tried the broccoli pasty and pumpkin pasty. The pumpkin pasty was excellent filling was like a very moist spinach and cheese roll with tiny bits of diced pumpkin, lots of garlic and lots of flavour. I would highly recommend this one. The broccoli pasty was more like a typical vegetable pasty, with a bit of broccoli added. Also nice, but the pumpkin was my favourite.
