I asked my host at the Airbnb to recommend an excellent restaurant .This is where she sent me and she was spot on.It was late lunchtime and the place was heavin... read more I asked my host at the Airbnb to recommend an excellent restaurant .This is where she sent me and she was spot on.It was late lunchtime and the place was heaving with locals. I was lucky enough to walk in just as a single table became vacant and oh what a treat was in store.This is a true French estaminet, of the sort that is hard to find these days.The atmosphere was wonderful and the proprietor warmly welcoming .I began with an exquisite salad of melt in the mouth chicken gizzards, caramelised morsels of potato ,lettuce leaves in an excellent mustard dressing ,all topped with a slice of honey cake crowned with foie gras.My main was the best beef [charolet] tartare I have ever encountered ,my dessert of iced nougat drawing the meal perfectly to a close.I requested a glass of red ,not too strong ,lacking in tanin.The proprietor said he had just the thing .He would bring it for me to sample and if it was not right ,we would keep going until I was happy.No need to do this however ,as one sip told me the choice was simply perfect.The proprietor is exceptionally well versed as to the provenance of the ingredients ,placing a strong emphasis upon the quality and freshness .I have rarely met an owner ,whose understanding of cuisine is so readily and skillfully shared. And all this for a seriously reasonable price! I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and can say with complete sincerity that I would happily return to Reims ,simply to dine here!
