Oscar's Mexican - Redlands
Oscar's Mexican
Description
Nestled in a vibrant locale, this restaurant offers a variety of creative tofu dishes and customizable options, particularly for breakfast. Guests appreciate the delicious beans, rice, and potatoes, but some note a lack of flavor in the entrees. The staff is knowledgeable, providing helpful guidance for vegan diners, but the menu could benefit from clearer vegan labeling. Despite mixed feelings about the overall taste, many patrons are drawn back for the expanding menu, which includes a standout breakfast burrito option that can be enhanced with enchilada sauce. A solid choice for those seeking variety.
Feedback
The food was just alright, with most dishes tasting bland. The tater tots were the standout dish and added some flavor to the meal.
The restaurant is a good size and the service is great. It would be even better if they offered more variety and options on their menu.
The beans and rice are delicious! The potatoes are tasty as well. They experiment with their tofu in the entrees but it falls a bit flat - a bit bland. However, there are plenty of options available. I returned two years later and discovered even more choices. I was able to customize my own breakfast burrito with soy chorizo, potatoes, and beans. It was so delicious that I even opted for it soaked in enchilada sauce.
Good, not great. We had a waitress who really knew how to order as a vegan and she gave us vast array of things we could create by kind of like ordering g a la carte. They did have marked vegetarian items on the menu but I can’t remember if there was specifically vegan marked items. My wife and I would definitely go back but we are not in a hurry. The food was just lacking flavor, basically bland.
I had driven past Oscars Restaurant countless times before finally noticing it. It's a nondescript place located downtown right on State Street. On a Friday evening, I decided to go with a friend for some Mexican food and margaritas. I opted for the vegan plate, which consisted of grilled vegetables, tofu, black beans, and the choice of rice or potatoes. It also came with homemade corn tortillas. My friend went for the vegetarian chimichanga, which was delicious but quite filling. The potatoes were particularly tasty, perfectly seasoned. There was a slight hiccup with the service, but I believe it was just because they were busy. I had initially received rice instead of potatoes but they quickly corrected the mistake. Overall, I have a feeling that Oscars would serve up a decent breakfast and I'd definitely consider giving it a try someday.
