Had a wonderful lunch here when visiting Red Bay and its Historical sites. Food was superb, especially the desserts - go the berries. Service was pleasant and helpful. Loved the gift shop and displays in the place. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Whalers Restaurant:
This being the only restaurant in Red Bay, we did not have much choice. First we thought that it was allright. Fish and chips is always a good meal. However, little did we know that the kitchen closes at 7.30 pm so we got "warned" the next day so as not to stay too long for dinner and drinks. Furthermore, the staff seemed "grumpy" and almost fed up to be working. We had breakfast twice, dinner twice and even lunch on... View all feedback.

However, little did we know that the kitchen closes at 7.30 pm so we got "warned" the next day so as not to stay too long for dinner and drinks. Furthermore, the staff seemed "grumpy" and almost fed up to be working. We had breakfast twice, dinner twice and even lunch once (as it is the only restaurant) and we also stayed at their cabins. Therefore we found it quite unpleasant that we were told that we could not have a table because other people MIGHT be coming (??).
If you are in Red Bay - it is the place to eat. We arrived right as a bus group was leaving - and the service was still great. Excellent Fish and Chips.

Outstanding place. The owners sister in Port Hope Simpson called ahead to see if they would stay open until we got there, and hold a room. We were a little late, at the edge of dark, and were welcomed with open arms. Great accommodations were ready, in a renovated boat house, right on the waters edge. (There was an iceberg visible just beyond the island in the mouth of the harbor.) We were treated to the best evah.. (my Maine accent coming through..lol) fish & chips, and the most amazing local beer. The iceberg beer was awesome..I can't thank the owners enough for genuine downhome hospitality and, friendship. Made me feel right at home.
The Whaler's Restaurart has Basque food on the menu, but our tour leader recommended the fish (cod) and chips. This was a good idea--they were excellent. As was usually the case, the service was good and efficient.
