Reviews summary
Although disappointed by a canceled reservation, we visited the steakhouse and found some hits and misses. While the sirloin was fatty, the rib eye proved tasty despite the high price. Starters and desserts were exceptional, with sides outshining the steaks for one diner. Another visitor compared the steak quality favorably to London counterparts, praising the service and flavors. A birthday group loved the steak, ambiance, and service, deeming it the best in the area. A couple celebrating an anniversary had a memorable meal with exceptional service. Overall, a steak-lover's paradise marred by some inconsistencies with the main courses.

Despite experiencing a heating issue, we chose to dine at this restaurant. The food was excellent from beginning to end, with tender and tasty meat and delicious sauces adding a great touch. View all feedback.

Is this serious??!! You cancelled my booking and then send me an email to review it!!! Check your records...what a joke!
An amazing steak house and a lovely MOS who served us. It was my wedding anniversary and I wanted to treat my wife to a special evening. The waiter (I think he was called JP) was really good attentive and genuine. The steak was amazing, the knife cut through like butter.
They cancelled our booking. So cannot leave a real review however we were annoyed that no explaination was given.
Very good cuts, great meal. Coming from the likes of Hawksmoor, Smith and Wollenskys and Goodman in London (and Morton’s in New York last month to dining at a provincial chain in Reading, I wasn’t expecting much. Miller and Carter Reading were quite poor indeed by comparison so I imagined they set the bar low, that this was the standard of service you get from a typical chain restaurant outside the capital. However I was very wrong indeed. Cuts of steak, (up to a 600g sirloin! preparation, marinades were very tasty indeed and good quality, the service was first rate and all things considered added up to a very enjoyable occasion. Thanks very much guys. One small request, ordering medium well doesn’t usually equate to rare in the middle for me but the cut was so good just to hold it under the flame for a few more seconds seemed like an unnecessary additional request, and I may have misunderstood the Argentinian benchmark. For those used to a more UK centric dining experience, I would suggest a translation of medium well medium rare here, but maybe that was just a one off based on the size of the cut I ordered. Otherwise five stars and hope to be back.

Thanks to the administrators I couldn't eat here, but the meal at Miller and Carter was excellent
My husband and I had dinner over the weekend. We had wanted to come to Cau for some time as both of us are steak lovers. Sadly, we were a bit disappointed with the steaks. They were very expensive for what they were. My husband's sirloin was around 20% fat and gristle. My rib eye was nice, but the quality and cut were not worth the £27 price tag. Thankfully the starter of salt and pepper squid was amazing. Our desserts were also fantastic we had the pancakes and the churros. The pancakes were hot and delicious it was a substantial dessert. The churros were also fresh out of the fryer and were light and delicious. We also really enjoyed our sides with our dinner we had lentils with chorizo, hand cut fries and sweet potato fries. My husband said he could have had three servings of the lentils with fries and done without the steak and been perfectly happy. So rating of the food without the steaks would have been a 4.5 5. But the steaks let us down at a rating of 2. Ambiance was OK music a bit loud where we were sitting, but they were good tunes. Temperature quite comfortable considering they had a lot of open windows and it was nuclear hot outside.

Group of five people celebrating a birthday. All steak lovers and they certainly are the best steaks in Reading and surrounding area. Lovely location. Sat outside as it was a nice evening. Not the best views but ok and you could talk easily as nice and quiet. Staff were great and friendly. Didn't feel rushed at all and nice gap between starters/mains/dessert. All food was really good and price reasonable. Would definitely recommend. This was my second visit and wont be my last. Many Thanks to all the staff.
