The food was okay. Service wasn't great – new students were hired, but that shouldn't have been my problem. COVID wasn't a big issue either. Masks required inside and on the way? None. Social distancing was also important – guests were assigned a table right next to us, back to back. Maybe he'll get another chance, but not for now. We have enough alternatives for that.
We passed Ratekau during a biking trip from Lubeck to Timmendorferstrand. The number of good restaurants is limited and we choose Markt Stuben with the help of TripAdvisor. Arrived at the placed it was clearly closed cause it was hired for a private party/dinner. The owner came up to us and asked what we wanted and I explained we would like to have a dinner. After some negotiation at the back of the restaurant, it was ok. Not being open also meant not really having the full choice of the menu. After some explanation in English ! the owner composed us a nice decent meal for a very decent price. The food was simple but also great, a really good dish in with respect in the middle of nowhere. So if you are ever in the neighboorhood, be sure to have a meal there. My regards, thanks for the good and unexpected service, we had a very nice meal/evening.
The restaurant was closed as I read the menu outside. Norbert Steinhagen the owner and chef came out and invited me in for breakfast and coffee. They were busy preparing for the arrival of a large group. However his wife, Inge, made some eggs, cheese and salad for me. It was delicious and most welcome having just travelled from Copenhagen via the ferry. Norbert's English was impeccable as we discussed local history and the current state of British politics. Thankyou so much for a great breakfast, lots and lots of good, strong coffee and a warm welcome for a weary traveller. Til next time.
