Description

Nestled just off I‑81 in the Shenandoah countryside, Rockbridge is a charming winery-with-brewery celebrated for flavorful estate wines, a rotating beer selection, friendly knowledgeable staff, scenic views, live music and weekend food trucks. Dog-friendly patios and membership perks draw locals and road-trippers alike. However, a serious safety lapse involving an owner’s dog biting a guest has raised concerns about pet supervision and prompted some members to reconsider. Excellent pours and atmosphere, but clearer dog‑policy enforcement is needed to match the otherwise welcoming experience.

We made an impromptu stop during our road trip and were pleasantly surprised. The wine was excellent, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The view was lovely, and we enjoyed some great to-go beers from the brewery as well. Honestly, what more could you want?

First of all, Rockbridge offers an excellent selection of wine and beer. We are members ourselves, but I must address the owner's negligence during our recent visit. Since Rockbridge is dog-friendly, we brought our dog along. The owner attempted to introduce his chocolate lab to ours, but his dog was aggressive. When he tried again, he lost control of his dog, which ended up biting mine and causing me to fall out of my seat. In the process, my fiancé was also nipped. We didn’t feel comfortable asking the owner to step away at the time, but looking back, I wish we had. While I take some responsibility, this situation was careless, unsafe, and unprofessional, especially coming from the owner of a winery. We are now considering canceling our membership. We truly love the winery, but we want to raise awareness for others who may bring their dogs.

Karen and John were amazing hosts to our large group celebrating our son’s graduation and birthday. They took the boys for a tour and made us feel at home. We tried a little bit of everything from beer to wine! The Meritage was excellent! Looking forward to going back, thanks again for a memorable day ??
