Reviews summary

Flames is a beloved, budget-friendly Jamaican spot in Randolph with hearty oxtails, stews, rice and peas, pastries and daily specials. Longtime fans praise its authentic flavors and vegetarian sides, though popular items can sell out. Service and consistency are mixed—slow lines, occasional rude staff, leaking containers and unevenly heated takeout have been reported. Display-case freshness and lunchtime soup availability also raise concerns. When it’s busy, patience often pays off for the well-loved dishes.

Flames Jamaican Restaurant is a fantastic addition to Randolph's expanding dining scene. Everything I've tried so far has been incredibly delicious. Just keep in mind that it can get quite busy, so you might want to allow a little extra time; it's definitely worth the wait!

I absolutely love the oxtails, stewed steak, and stewed chicken! Randolph Flames offers excellent service, and they don't run out of food as quickly as some other locations. I sometimes get a bit impatient with the lines and the time it takes to process orders, but it's definitely worth a visit.

The coco bread didn’t taste great this time; it usually does, but it seemed like it had freezer burn. The macaroni and jerk chicken were a bit salty, but still enjoyable overall. We really appreciate having a Black-owned restaurant in the area.

As soon as you walk in, you can sense the negative energy and unwelcoming attitude from the staff. Although I live in Randolph, I prefer to drive to Matt Alan because of the rudeness I experience from the front staff here. It's unprofessional to hear them discussing their bad moods because a coworker called out. I'll gladly continue making the trip to Mattpan instead, as their staff is much more pleasant and polite, and they truly value my business.

I ordered two beef patties with coco bread. One was extremely hot from the microwave, and by the time it cooled down enough to eat, it had become tough and dry. The other beef patty was served on cold coco bread. I've been a customer of Flames for over 15 years, and it's disappointing to see the quality of the food declining.

I found myself waiting 25 minutes to place my order, despite only four people ahead of me in line. One customer ordered a meal along with two beef patties with bread and cheese, while another ordered four of the same but without a meal. Interestingly, the meal was prepared long before the patties, causing the second customer to wait. It seemed the staff was preoccupied with conversations in English and another language, which likely contributed to the delay in taking my order. I noticed that my patties and bread arrived much quicker than the others, indicating that the wait time wasn't as lengthy as it seemed. Unfortunately, the server appeared more focused on chatting than on serving customers. I even saw two patrons leave in frustration after waiting too long.

The curry chicken was mostly bones and fat; out of the four pieces included, only one had any actual meat on it, which was quite disappointing. The curry gravy was excessively thick, and the rice and peas had some hard bits of rice mixed in.

I visited the restaurant for lunch on September 21, 2023, and my experience was rather disappointing. The plantains looked old as soon as I opened the container. I decided to give them a try, but they tasted stale, as if they had been sitting in the fridge for five days before being reheated. They either don't prepare them fresh or they rarely have them on hand. The rice was also inconsistent; more often than not, it was waterlogged. I hadn't visited in a while and thought it would be better than making the trek into Boston, but I was let down. I used to really enjoy their food; it's just unfortunate that they can't seem to maintain that level of quality.

The chicken had more bones than meat. Overpriced food and the rice is mushy. The customer service was awful the lady serving me had an attitude. I will never go back. There are far too many other good Jamaican food spots around to deal with such poor service.

Wanted something different...well it was different alright! I had the Jamaican shrimp with steamed veggies and sort of a Spanish rice. First of all it is like a Boston Market where everything is behind a glass and you choose want you want. Not knowing anything about Jamaican food, this was an experience. The table area was kind of dingy. The food was okay but I wouldn't return. I wasn't really impressed.
