I visited Nafkot for the first time tonight and it was great. It was nice to introduce family to Ethiopian food while enjoying my favorite dishes. The service was great as well as the environment and food. The next time I'm in Raleigh I will definitely return. View all feedback.
What Uwe Eckert doesn't like about Abyssinia Ethiopian:
I am giving a two stars because the people were very nice. I feel bad about giving 2 stars but the food was not impressive and they had a 80.5 sanitation rating. The place looks run down. I was really looking forward to Ethiopian and the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately there were only 2 people working so it did take a while to get our food. I am not basing my rating off of that. They were sweet but the food w... View all feedback.
For the first time eat Ethiopia, we decided to take some chances and order a whole lot of different options. Service was great. The food was great. The flavors were amazing. That was definitely every piece of community experience as I hoped. I would recommend coming here if you burn a few hours and some good friends to share the experience.
Food was delicious, there are vegetarian/vegan options. People was welcoming and food came in timely manner. I also appreciated that we weren't rushed (I like to take my time to eat! and music was excellent. All of it coronated by a good price. Definitely coming back!
Having read some of the more recent reviews by disappointed diners, please understand that Abyssinia is just like my experience with other Ethiopian restaurants in DC and in Nashville. An Ethiopian restaurant will take a long time to bring out your food (50 min. for mine). You are not waited on every 12-15 minutes like in a more Americanized restaurant. If you don't know what to expect, you would think that you were being disregarded and the service terrible- it isn't so, it is just the Ethiopian way. I loved the food here, I thought it was terrific and the portions were very large. Buying 4 entrees was probably enough to have served 7 people, hence the prices being on the high side. I will most definitely be back, though, to taste again a terrific gem of cultural cuisine in Raleigh. Just know what to expect when you go!
First I don't know what a previous post was talking about an 80% health dpt rating. I am looking at the sign and it is 96.5. Anyway really good food. We got the vegetarian and meat combo platters and couldn't finish them. Everything was flavorful and tasty. Seated quickly, friendly waitress and food came in a timely manner.
I am Ethiopian and frequent this place. The food is absolutely authentic and delicious however, it is not fast-food so do not go there expecting your food in 5 or 10 minutes. The wait is worth it as the food is always fresh and just like the type my grandma makes. The decor needs some work as well as the lighting (which is dim) but since this is a restaurant and they are in the business of selling food, just focus on the food and its great quality. The waitstaff is always pleasant also. Price is reasonable for the amount of food they give. We usually order the kitfo, which is absolutely fantastic. Try it tonight!
