that is not a vegan restaurant. they offer them a bowl of suppe, make them their own salad (pasta, carrots, tomats and dressing) and a main dish choice was between 2 options, each including a soy steak plus a drink soy milk or papya juice (both are watered down). enough for us to give Ecuadorian food another chance! Probably the cheapest option you can find in Quito. Lunch for 2.75. The taste was pretty good. The place itself looked dirty. No other option was available, just lunch.
I've had lunch at El Vegetariano several times, and while it's not as good as nearby Govindas, it's still a nice place in the old town of Quito. The restaurant is frequented by locals, street vendors as well as businessmen, and can sometimes be crowded. The staff is friendly, but does not really know what's vegan and what's not. If you're in doubt, ask the lady at the counter instead of the waitress. They don't have a written menu, so some spanish is necessary if you want to know what's todays deal.

The soup had pieces of shredded chicken and small bones, apart from the distinctive taste. The lady said that the spoon was mixed with the other pot, but was completely vegetarian. It's not nice to be lied to. In addition, lunch was average, rice and lentils, 1 beet root croquette, cut tomatoes, which was unusable (white and creamy). Dessert a burned cake. I do not recommend it at all, their restaurant is not vegetarian, the menu is only meat and if you ask for lunch, they improvise something.
This is not a frills vegan restaurant. They offer you a bowl of soup, make your own salad (pasta, carrots, tomatoes and dressing) and a main dish choice was between 2 options, each including a soy steak plus a drink soy milk or papaya juice (both are watered down). The food was rather tasty... enough for us to give Ecuadorian food another chance!
