The restaurant is located in a Bye-Lane in Saligao, but as soon as you are there, it is an amazing 100-year-old villa and the owner cum cook, Anisha Hassan personally monitors the kitchen and is a gracious host...and it shows in the quality of the food that is absolutely amazing. While you have a selection of Goan, Portugiesen and Hyderabadi cuisine, I would recommend you try their Hyderabadi cuisine called The Hyder... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Saligao Stories:
The Hyderabad platter had delicious spicy chili curry and eggplant curry. The bread pudding was tasty. However, to my surprise, the biryani was tough and seemed old. The chicken dish was decent but nothing exceptional. Overall, it was a bit disappointing. View all feedback.
We tried a sampler which was great. The food is good and the portions are too. The Biryani is not to be missed. next time the Rann!!
Despite the unsuspecting turn off the main road that took us down the narrow lane, opening into a large parking lot, I was unsure of what to expect. Lovely large dining room with traditional furniture and a couple of rooms of to the side with all sorts of bric-a-brac. Given the heat we chose to site inside but otherwise there is a huge courtyard just off the bar which has tonnes of space and seating optionsOn to the food - lovely participation from the local chef who came out and explained the genesis of the menu from her grandmom's recipes, the import of meat from Delhi to ensure the right cuts of meat and suggestions on how to navigate the menu. The food was universally great - whether it was the Haleem, or the Nihari - if you like authentic Hyderabadi food you will love this spot. The room and the large comfortable chairs help significantly. Service was great but super glad that the lady was available as the rest of the staff were less knowledgeable about the menu though super pleasant.Dessert however was disappointing - asked for the raspberry ice cream which felt more like ice cream with jam mixed in - but as I recall some of the other folks at the table had some of the India desserts which were quite good. Drinks were little more expensive than usual in Goa but in comparison to most big cities still very reasonable.Love the fact that parking was easy and because it was off the beaten track not inundated with tourists.
Turning inside a quaint lane in the village to this open parking place and the adjoining courtyard was a revelation. Meeting the soft spoken owner who explained the concept was a delight. This restaurant was the home of her maternal grandfather and therefore held many memories for her. Born to Goan mother and Hyderabadi father, Anita grew up to be a food enthusiast, which has now translated into this hospitable place.Straight out of a story book, the place has artefacts that tell the stories of the people who stayed there. The menu has favourites of the family and I was thrilled to see Campari being served. "My grandfather loved Campari, so it HAD to be a part of the menu," the host informed. "Though you are one of the rare guests who ask for it!" she added. We went with my friend and date for the night's suggestion of Chorizo on Onion Biscuit for starter and a kabab as suggested by the host. The choriz was rightly spiced and it tasted brilliant on the slim onion biscuit base that was baked in house. Delectable and a must have.We sat in the courtyard below a chikoo tree. And despite the summer, the breeze and trees in the courtyard kept us cool. Candles added to the warm, hospitable ambience. We had Haleem as the main course. It was perfectly ground and blend. Right consistency.I have tried the biryani that was brought to friend's place and can vouch for its authenticity as well. Looking forward to another trip to taste the Rann and a few Goan things. But then that's another review!!!For now...... I leave with a strong recommendation. Must visit. Rekindle your childhood, or the lost romance.......and have a great foodgasm!
A beautiful Goan home, painstakingly converted into a charming restaurant.A large courtyard dressed with candles makes for a wonderful drinks and appetiser setting. We had some delicious Shikampuri kebabs (plenty for vegetarians as well) that just melted away. For the main course we were ushered into the the main dining hall. The service was good. The cutlery well laid and clean. We stuck to Hyderabadi food as it was the restaurants speciality. Nalli Gosh accompanied by Indian bread. The meat was succulent and gravy rich and flavour full. We followed that up with the house special Lamb Biryani served with some Dahi Curry and Raita. We found the rice dry and brittle also bland but the accompaniments made up for it. There were some dishes that needed advance notice. We skipped on dessert but will plan for it on our next. That's right we will definitely go back and recommend Saligao Stories it to friends.Restauranteur Anisha Hassan was a perfect host asking after our comfort and feedback. All in all a lovely experience.
We went with friends, but to be honest, it was a little disappointing. Some good dishes and some bad. There are not too many great places to eat.
