Beautiful renovated home, food was good but chicken we were served was awful. On the whole it is a good afternoon spent with friends!

This is the most amazing experience. Its not about the food (its not a restaurant) but about the entire experience that takes you back into the Portuguese era. And its so brilliantly restored that it feels like you are living in the house. To my mind the best part is that the owners live in the house and its not some sort of museum. The labour of their love is evident in every detail in the house. Hearing Ruben about the sheer efforts that went into putting this place together makes one realise how difficult it is to restore such an old house. The fact that a priest lived there about 200 years ago makes the whole experience even more surreal. The food itself is out of the world and really, really extensive. I have not ever eaten more authentic Goan food despite having been to the state at least 20 times. Since the food is cooked in the family kitchen, in small portions and by Ruben's wife, it tastes extremely fresh and delicious. They do serve a lot of (bit too many) dishes and one is lost trying to take a bite of everything. The kokum drink they served us before the meal was amazingly refreshing. And the coffee was divine. We roamed around the property after (and before) the meal. You get transported to an entirely different world, and for a few minutes, feel like a Goan village resident. It is a long drive from most part in Goa, especially North Goa. However, its a very beautiful drive and completely worth it. Ruben's hospitality deserves a special mention as he is the perfect host, explaining away minute details while serving dishes that his wife cooks in the family kitchen.
We were taken to Palacio D Deao by our guide. He explained how Ruben and his wife went to Portugal to study how to renovate this beautiful historical place. We toured the property and were shocked with what a beautiful job they have done restoring this classic building. We had been told that he best would be saved for last! Ruben told us that his wife prepares an "elementary" lunch. We sat down under their portico which is surrounded by the most beautiful plants and trees to one of the best meals that we have ever had in India. If the meal was elementary I would like to see what a fancy meal would look like! I believe that one has to call to make a reservation for lunch.
We went there on the 27th June for lunch. Had made reservation through email and Ruben was very prompt. I think the only way to eat there is through prior reservation as his wife cooks fresh food daily. Its like eating in someones house. As he says he serves Indo Goan Portuguese food. This was an old mansion which Ruben took over and had it restored. They stay there only. They have a farm on the campus and his vegetables and fruits come from there. We had a feat with a 5 course meal. There were 4 starters veg and non veg-- crab to die for. There were so many dishes in the main course from prawns to chicken, fish (super) pumpkin, and I think 4 veg dishes. i forgot to mention the simple high class tamato soup.we ate so much as each dish was so different that we have not eaten these anywhere in Goa. A chocolate cake came in the end which was also so different and very tasty. A MUST VISIT PLACE
