Its not about the food (its not a restaurant) but about the entire experience that takes you back into the Portuguese era. And its so brilliantly restored that it feels like you are living in the house. To my mind the best part is that the owners live in the house and its not some sort of museum. The labour of their love is evident in every detail in the house. Hearing Ruben about the sheer efforts that went into putting this place together makes one realise how difficult it is to restore such an old house. The fact that a priest lived there about 200 years ago makes the whole experience even more surreal.The food itself is out of the world and really, really extensive. I have not ever eaten more authentic Goan food despite having been to the state at least 20 times. Since the food is cooked in the family kitchen, in small portions and by Ruben's wife, it tastes extremely fresh and delicious. They do serve a lot of (bit too many) dishes and one is lost trying to take a bite of everything. The kokum drink they served us before the meal was amazingly refreshing. And the coffee was divine.We roamed around the property after (and before) the meal. You get transported to an entirely different world, and for a few minutes, feel like a Goan village resident. It is a long drive from most part in Goa, especially North Goa. However, its a very beautiful drive and completely worth it. Ruben's hospitality deserves a special mention as he is the perfect host, explaining away minute details while serving dishes that his wife cooks in the family kitchen.
