Hawker Roll - Queenstown

I visited the restaurant on an early Thursday evening when it was not busy. The staff were friendly and informed us that they had sold out of Nasi Lemak. We ordered the Malaysian chicken and beef rendang, both of which were delicious and flavorful. The sambal on the rice had a nice kick to it. The prices are reasonable as well. I would recommend this place if you're looking for an affordable and easy Asian meal.

This restaurant offers an excellent fast-food twist on traditional Malaysian cuisine. The nasi lemak is outstanding, and the idea of roti filled with Malaysian dishes is really unique—it's reminiscent of a Malay taco. Definitely worth a try! The prices are quite reasonable for Queenstown.

Celebrity chef Josh Emmett's chain of Malaysian 'Hawker' restaurants is making a name for itself across the country, and this location is quick, cheerful, and just as impressive as its larger and more refined counterpart in Auckland. In fact, this venue feels friendlier and cozier, offering a more authentic 'street' atmosphere. The food is outstanding; while it may not be as inexpensive as you'd expect for hawker fare, the quality is unmatched, and the flavors always shine. It's a great spot whether you're heading out to town, after a few drinks, with drinks, or even on your way back from a night out. My personal favorites include the Vietnamese coffee (both hot and iced), the chicken laksa roll, the salads, and the nasi lemak. However, I would advise skipping the dumplings—they fall a bit flat compared to the rest of the menu.

We visited Hawker Roll during the school holidays, which might have caused the long wait we were warned for. The food was worth the wait though, especially the laksa! The portions were quite small in our opinion, we should have ordered some extra side dishes

Everything on the menu is to die for. I was actually a fan of the gluten free option which was simply a lettuce leaf. Doesn’t get any more gluten free than that. The tracks were great and the staff were all friendly. Last bit not least, they have a very comfortable bathroom out back.
