Les Maltcommodes - Québec
Les Maltcommodes
Description
NUMBER restaurant in Quebec City offers a vibrant atmosphere and a unique dining experience with its innovative hot rock concept. Customers praise the warm service and exceptional house beers, highlighting the freshness of dishes like Bison Tartare and tender ribs. However, the dining experience is marred by inconsistent service and mediocrity in food quality, with reports of slow staff and unsatisfactory portions. While some enjoy the lively ambiance, others find it too loud. Overall, NUMBER has its merits, yet it leaves room for improvement in both food preparation and attentive service amidst a bustling environment.

Absolutely outstanding service! I have no complaints in that regard. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre. It's been ages since I dined here, and I wouldn't return. The cheese fondue didn’t taste like cheese at all; it was more reminiscent of potatoes. When I inquired about the menu, the waitress mentioned that several items could be frozen, but they aren't prepared on-site. The atmosphere was excellent, but the food didn't match up to that standard!
I liked the restaurant, I would suggest reviewing the availability of dishes on hot plates on hot days… it made me uncomfortable with the very hot weather. But the concept of these dishes is really interesting.Otherwise the cocktails are good without more (of course their specialty is beer).Huge choice of meals. If you want to see a show while eating you have to eat very late which I find a bit of a shame.Beautiful, eclectic and modern decor.Service A1 ?
On Wednesday, the tartars are at $19. I liked the salmon one with salad or fries. The beers are excellent as well as the service. Nice terrace. To recommend!
On a positive note, the ribs were very good, but the fries were soft and undercooked. Overall, the experience was just okay. The band was enjoyable, but it was quite unpleasant to be surrounded by people who were inconsiderate. There were patrons placing their beers and cocktails on our table after we had finished eating, which made it difficult for us to relax and finish up. It would be better if there were clearer guidelines, such as asking people to pay and clear tables or encouraging a bit of courtesy so diners can finish their meals in peace.
I received a warm and welcoming greeting with plenty of smiles. I particularly enjoyed the unique concept of serving meat and shellfish on a granite slab heated to 800°. The side dishes, including asparagus, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and gratin dauphinois, were all excellent, as were the three sauces that accompanied the meal. They even offered a selection of beers, including some French options! While the prices were a bit on the higher side, the quality of the service and the meat justified it. My only complaint would be the portion sizes; I would have liked two shrimp and an extra scallop. The decor created a lovely atmosphere, and I highly recommend this restaurant. Parking is available in the shopping center nearby.
