On a cold April evening where few other restaurants in the area were open, we were welcomed to this friendly restaurant. We loved the lack of pretension and the ambience which reflected a mix of clientele from a toddler to retired couples like ourselves. The food from the 22 Euro menu was great; we liked the red wine on offer; portions were not too big but generous. Really enjoyed our main dish of beef which was cook... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Le Champ de Mars:
In this newly reopened restaurant with attractively printed menus we were hopeful of a good meal as we were there for a special celebration. Unfortunately, the service although prompt, was amateurism with inexperienced staff . The food disappointed with overcooked trout which was served skin...side up and inadequately filleted. The assiette was inadequate in quantity and quality and was overpriced. We are unlikely to... View all feedback.
Town was dead, but this restaurant was open and we hoped for good honest fresh French food. Restaurant and toilets were clean, modern and functional, if a bit soulless. Food though was awful. Set lunch were samosas, which were Vietnamese, and average, with a very...strange salad with sliced mushrooms and lettuce. Main was an Alsace choucroute, which is a meat and cabbage dish. Why they were serving this in this region beats me, but it was pretty poor, tasteless, stodgy, with some dry, rough pieces of meat. My wife had the deep fried haddock which was average. My daughter had the spaghetti bolognese from the kids menu. When she had a mouthful and made a face I though she was being picky, but I tried to have some (so as not to leave an embarrassingly large amount) and it was inedible. Apart from the large pieces of sliced mushroom and carrot, it was bizarrely sweet. It was like someone had cooked spaghetti bolognese having never cooked it before. Awful. The waitress got all miserable when collecting the plates as if we’d personally offended her. Couldn’t wait to leave.
This place was a joke not only do they not know how to make a cappuccino, or what a cappuccino is as they brought us out two hot chocolates. A small cappuccino is euro and we bought making it euros. We were...asked if we wanted anything else and said no as we had just got of a flight and just needed a pick me up, as we were waiting for our room to be vacated. When going to pay the bill was euro and when questioning this was told there was a minimum order, which we did not see on the menu nor were we told when we ordered just the coffees or we would of left the place as all we wanted was the coffees, however upon disagreeing with this waiter, and been jet lagged I chose to just let it be, but what really made me see red and just about made me choke this guy was his nerve to ask for a cent tip and to round bill of yo euros, this guy was a piece of work I mean a real bottom feeder, preying on foreigners, thinking we are stupid or afraid. We are just better human beings than your sorry face that you are, I am of your decent also but it’s people like you that make the rest of us look bad. You may Of felt smart for a minute ripping of hard working honest people but your life will As always continue to be poor and you Will always be a nothing in the bigger picture of the world. I feel bad and am sorry for you and your life.
I went there today and wish I read the reviews first. I ordered a french onion soup and a water. The waiter kept trying to push bread and cheese on me and I said just the soup. When the bill came, I was surprised to...see that my small bottle of water was My total bill was I only had bills and wanted smaller bills. I pulled out my wallet and put a down and went through my change to make so I would get back and tip in change. The waiter immediately grabbed my and said thank you and walked off. I called him back and gave him the change and he looked at me and yelled you’re not leaving me any tip? (In French) I replied back in French and said I was going to leave him something but needed the and he repeated it again to the waiter a few feet over saying I can’t believe she’s not leaving me a tip. I smirked and put my money away, took my and left him nothing. The waiter who he told I wasn’t leaving a tip to refused to let me use the washroom before leaving. I wish I could give this place zero stars.
