Pass Key - Pueblo
Pass Key
Description
Pass Key, a cherished establishment in Pueblo since 1952, evokes nostalgic memories and culinary cravings among locals and visitors alike. While their renowned Italian sausage sandwiches and legendary fries maintain a loyal fanbase, recent experiences reveal inconsistency in service and food quality. Many patrons express disappointment over flavorless takeout and delayed orders, citing chaotic management during peak hours. However, the welcoming atmosphere and commitment to customer satisfaction often shine through. For those seeking classic comfort food amidst Pueblo's dining scene, Pass Key remains a must-try, especially for the iconic Super Sandwich—an indulgent treat that locals hold dear.

I always love grabbing one of their amazing sausage grinders whenever I visit Pueblo. I have wonderful memories from my childhood in Pueblo, especially my first Passkey at the original restaurant/drive-in on Abriendo. The Passkey special with provolone cheese and added green chili strips is simply the best. It's a family-run business, and the service is always fantastic.
The Pass Key sandwich is quite tasty for what it is. The Italian sausage and the bread are excellent. I wouldn't venture far from this item, as it seems to be their signature dish, while the other menu options appear somewhat generic and not particularly representative of Pueblo cuisine. The staff I interacted with were very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is a mix of fast food and a 1970s diner vibe. It's clean and well-maintained with care. Surprisingly, there’s a drive-thru. I didn’t inquire, but I suspect orders have to be called in for the drive-thru since I didn’t notice a menu board outside. My wait for the sandwich was about 15 minutes, and I was dining in. Keep in mind, this is a full-service restaurant. I would definitely stop by again when in the area. This is a simple stop just off I-25 and offers a great taste of Pueblo’s dining history.
The Pass Key Special was an incredible sandwich (or hoagie, sub, however you prefer to call it). It featured a nice, fresh, crispy-edged sausage patty nestled between soft, fluffy bread with a variety of cheeses, lettuce, and mustard. It truly doesn’t get better than this! I decided to stop by based on local recommendations during a family reunion weekend. Our host was visibly surprised to learn that it was my first visit, and with great pride, he immediately recommended the Pass Key Special, confidently assuring me that I’d love it. It was refreshing to see employees who take pride in their menu and establishment, as that’s becoming increasingly rare. The atmosphere was friendly, and the hospitality—from the waitstaff to the manager—was excellent. The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained. I’ll definitely make it a point to stop by again during my next visit to family in the Buffalo, NY area. This is a must-visit restaurant when you're in Pueblo!
The pass key original is wonderful. Great flavors, great service. Always a stop for us when we are in Pueblo. Drove down today just for this!
