Friendly service, good home cooked food & great coffees! They also do catering and take out.
It's so nice to find a locally owned and operated café like this in smaller communities. The Bean Counter offers soup, sandwiches and salads in addition to a wide variety of drinks based on coffee or tea. I think that you can choose from panini, wraps or basic bread for all or most sandwiches. We both selected paninis and that meant that they used focaccia bread. There was a time when all paninis were made this way. The bread was fresh and very tasty with the herbs that it's made with. Somehow they managed to make the bread crusty without being crumbly (is that possible? Apparently yes). The problem with focaccia bread is that, while delicious, it is very filling. I would choose a wrap next time. I ordered a basic black coffee and to my surprise they came around to offer a refill. Décor is country style, like a gift shop. It's bigger than it looks from the outside plus there's some outside seating. I enjoyed our lunch and would return. It's not outstanding in any particular way but it is certainly good. I recommend it.
I usually don't write negative reviews, but my experience at this restaurant was terrible. It was my first time going and the server seemed irritated to take my order. I didn't realize they didn't have food menus, so I had to ask to be directed to their board of sandwich and soup options. Despite only being one of 3-4 customers, it took a long time to receive my meal, which was their special for the day. This was surprising as specials are usually quick at most places. The portion of soup was disappointingly small for the price. Throughout my meal, I felt uncomfortable as both the cook and server kept staring at me. The food was not good and the soup was bland. I decided to leave early because of the uncomfortable atmosphere. I won't be returning to this restaurant. It's a shame because most coffee shops like this are usually excellent, but this one was a letdown.
