Want to test the real local flavor of tortas, panuchos, salbutes, fish and shrimp, calamari and the like? This place has been open since my grand dad and before, its family taste and claimed to be the oldest restaurant in town, dont get fooled by the applareance: give it a try

Our first day after moving here we walked thru progreso. anywhere we stopped the fave question was- do you live here or are you from a cruise? same at this restaurant. we told the waiter we lived there.the menu states that no bills are given but the waiters tally your total and tell you. seems a little hinkey but we went with it.the waiter gave us a total of 280 pesos. (exchange at the time was 18.5-1=$15usd) we said we didnt have any pesos as we had just arrived late the night before could they take usd? the guy said sure, $28. i asked him about the exchange being 10-1. he said ohhh well no it is 13-1. i said that was way too low even for a convenience rate and that my hubby would go across the street to the bank. the waiter wasn't happy. his service hadnt been good to begin with and the food was ok, not anything to remember though the drinks were good. another diner came over and asked in english if he could help. i warily asked him how and he gave me a big smile and said those rates are way too high but he would exchange my money. so we did with the waiter looking on in anger and yelling at him. he exchanged my usd for 18-1 as i asked.i hadnt planned on tipping the waiter as his service was subpar but the exchange guy said i had to tip him so we did- 10%. the waiter practically snatched the money from our hands.thank goodness we have met very nice and honest people in all of our other dealings in this town
