We tried this place on a Tuesday evening after reading all the good reviews on trip advisor. It was ok. We started with the calamari, which was rubbery, and didn't have much flavour. We tried this place on a Tuesday evening after reading all the good reviews on trip advisor. It was ok. We started with the calamari, which was rubbery, and didn't have much flavour. I tried the veg burger and fries, the fries were good, the burger was ok. My husband had the fish and chips, which were good but expensive for 2 small pieces of fish. Yam fries and chicken wings were good. No local beer, but a good selection of import and domestics. No atmosphere to speak of, but clean, although our table was falling apart in spots. Probably won't go back, but not terrible.
I was with a large group of friends and we were served by a really fun girl. We all had a great time. Drinks are decently priced and it has a fun atmosphere. A bit dark but who really cares.
A decent neighborhood pub. We had chicken wings to start, and some poutine for dinner which came in a generous portion. I ended up taking half of it home with me because I got full quickly. Service was alright, good drink specials, and lots of TV screens for everyone in your crew to watch sports. Looks like they have a multiple trivia nights and other weekly activities. We would go back.
Stopped in for lunch and a few beer while DW paid a visit to the adjacent spa. They have lots of TV's for sports, so got to watch the Wales v's Belgium Euro 2016 match. The TV's are OK, but they could have bigger screens with more resolution. The menu was typical pub grub, so I had fish and chips, which was highly recommended. Must agree, nice light batter, fresh halibut and real home cut chips. For beer they had the usual rubbish from the multi-nationals, but they did have a few craft beers, although none of them were local. The y had a very distinctive barrel aged Scottish ale (Innis
I’ll begin this review, a strangely positive one concerning a pub, with an irrefutable claim comparing Japanese tamagoyaki to Canadian poutine. No, I’m not having a stroke. Tamagoyaki is a Japanese omelet, very often presented alongside sushi and in the same manner. Customers often look down on tamago, a way substituting expensive fish with something of lower quality. And in some restaurants, that’s exactly the case…which is why tamago is also considered the baseline in which restaurants are judged. There are competitions in Japan where the premiere itamaes compete by making nothing but tamago. It’s interesting that in North America, sushi is elevated to a culinary stratum, the epoch of all foodies. Yet, over there, it’s often measured on the same level as our local pubs. In a way, nachos and pierogis can be considered the Canadian sushi. Yes, that’s the metaphor I’m making in my case for the quality of Westwood Pub. My last review was mixed. This one is better. It had been a while since my last visit. I remembered praising the food but not the décor, with beer logos raping your vision at every turn like a blip-vert from Max Headroom…yeah, that reference felt passé then to. I remember having a simple sandwich but enjoying freshness of the ingredients. This return visit was during a dinner service, which admittedly was a test of the clientele as much as anything else. I’ve been to pubs with good food but honestly feared for my safety. Approaching the entrance, the three of us had to navigate around someone enjoying a drag inches from the door, technically illegal in BC. Past the doors, we found unavoidable glares from an occupied pool table. Thankfully, once we took our seats, the situation improved. It had been a few years, and I’m certain there had been an intervening renovation; the lackluster layout from before looked improved, although the number of TV screens had not. Seriously, there are five mounted side-by-side down one wall. Five screens in a row. Unless they were linked to create one giant video, that would’ve been cool. Other elements are better, like the spacing between the tables and the reserved music. People could actually hear each other. The bar was unobtrusive, and the stained glass was a nice touch, especially those featuring the shield crest of the pub. That’s correct, a shield crest. And yes, that’s awesome. Maybe it’s my roots in Dungeons
