We ate there last night I had the whitefish my wife had the walleye both were prepared very well. The only thing wrong was the sweet potato that was the size of two golf balls anemic but the waitress helped out by getting me One more. The drinks from the bar were poured tall and strong very well done View all feedback.
What Saar S doesn't like about The Portage:
nothing to get excited about. nothing to get excited about. nothing to get excited about. oh, it's the only place within 20 miles where the table decor all matches. rather get a pizza at the hide away. View all feedback.
Very nice place and the view is fantastic. The service is very good. The Bartender is Amazing .
This restaurant has a great location overlooking the marina at Presque Isle Harbor, Lake Huron. It 's the only restaurant in the area so it 's usually busy, especially around the summer holidays. After a relaxing day on the lake and we don 't feel like cooking or driving far to a restaurant, this is our go to spot for dinner. The food is usually solid, not breaking any culinary boundaries, but solid. Whitefish is always a safe bet and occasionally they might have an interesting special. Sides are typical (soup or salad, baked potato, rice, etc. Non seafood eaters might find the selection limited and uninspired. The service is usually good although sometimes we 've had the 'home from college, summer job ' waitresses that are in the 'learning curve ' phase. There is one amazing regular waiter that we love RAY! He always makes the experience perfect and sometimes I think we come to the restaurant just to see him : They should clone him! If this restaurant were not the only restaurant in the area, I don 't know if I would ever visit. It 's more of a 'tradition ' to visit the Portage than an 'OMG, I cannot wait to go to the Portage ' thing. That being said, I will definitely be there again.... next year when I 'm on vacation at the lake :
Food was very good. Service was not spectacular (but the place was very busy on a Friday nite). It's a beautiful setting w two ice cream shops to choose from after dinner.
Very nice atmosphere with quality food. Dress up or casual either will fit. I liked the whitefish and I don't like fish.
After a long sail up from Harrisville, their pizza is the nectar of the Gods.
