Diners rave about the delicious food, highlighting standout dishes like the tikka curry and steak and ale pie, paired with friendly service that often surpasses expectations. However, some have faced challenges with meal quality and service responsiveness, leading to mixed feelings about their visits. Despite occasional lapses, the welcoming atmosphere, dog-friendly policies, and outdoor seating area have fostered loyal patrons who return for the memorable dining experience. For a lively family outing or casual lunch, this spot continues to hold great promise.
Travelled past this pub for the best part of 50 years but never stopped, what a mistake. I can say the food was excellent and the staff a credit to the management. Thanks for a great experience
Fantastic food. I had Hunters chicken, salad and haloumi fries, my partner had Steak and ale pie with salad and chips and gravy. Although I was very full I also managed to gannet a generous helping of apple and cherry crumble with custard AND ice cream..............separate dessert stomach, don't you know! The staff on duty- Darren, Karen, Mabel and Claire were friendly, helpful and very efficient. Our compliments to those in the kitchen too. Go there, eat and soak up the lovely atmosphere.
Excellent service, all the servers were really patient with our party of 10 plus 2 little ones. Food was very good indeed, we all had something different and really enjoyed what we had. We will most definitely return.
I live in Sutton Coldfield and my sisters live near Carmarthen, so we were looking for somewhere about half way to meet up for Sunday lunch and this was our choice. Thankfully it was an excelllent choice and also thankfully I hadn't eaten breakfast....the portions are really generous. The food is great and good value. Staff were friendly and efficient. We will definitely return for our next meet up.
This is the second time we have stayed at Smithy Cottage just behind The Horseshoes Inn. We thoroughly recommend it to anyone. It ticks all the boxes plus it is so peaceful and relaxing. The Horseshoes Inn next to the cottage serves excellent meals. All staff are professional and friendly. Warm welcome on arrival. Powys Castle and Garden in Powys is well worth a visit and is close to the cottage via a walk down the canal.
