Description

Evans Cafe, a beloved fixture in Newtown, offers a delightful selection of homemade cakes and hearty breakfasts, drawing in locals and visitors alike. While many praise the quality and freshness of the food, the service can be inconsistent. Some guests have encountered unfriendly staff that dampens the experience, contrasting sharply with the warmth exuded by other team members. Despite a few missteps, such as subpar milkshakes and lackluster ambiance during busy periods, the cafe remains popular for its inviting atmosphere and delicious offerings, particularly its renowned Chelsea Buns and seasonal specials.

Called in to grab something to take home for lunch. Evans is ‘famous ‘ for its Chelsea buns so grabbed one and a savoury roll.Service prompt but no hint of a smile ,don’t know if the lady serving was having a bad life(always had this style of service from her for a number of years) Really off putting-failed charm school obviously then to add the icing on top of this bitter cake the Chelsea bun dry and stale whilst the chicken roll full of cranberry sauce and very very little meat.My advice shop elsewhere-better service, better quality and can use cards as Evans only take cash under £5 sales(not convenient at times)

I often pop to Evans’ for a cake and a coffee and on the odd occasion a meal too, the food is always lovely and the fresh cakes and bread are always amazing! They do seasonal specials as well... their mince pies are just to die for! They are family friendly and even though it’s quite a small cafe they always make space for kids/prams etc.

Went all four of us for a cup of tea and a bite to eat. Toasties and prawn sandwich, very tasty all of them. We asked for decaffeinated tea and the lady told us she could not find any but she could go out and buy some for us!! How kind is that. Never ever heard that before, very touching. We said normal tea will work fine. I will never forget what the gentle lady said. She had a touch many of us lack today. God bless her. If we ever come back to Newtown we will pay cafe Evans another visit and hope she is still working.

The cafe is a bakery store to the front and cafe in the back, so much of what you can order is on view as you walk in. The bread is soooo good, though it won't last long due to lack of preservatives (a good thing, imo). The cakes are also very good; this tends to be the locals' go-to for quality baked goods. The cafe in the back is basic but the standard of the food makes up for it.
