What Ralph Zollinger doesn't like about At Caer Beris Manor:
We booked for a meal on Tuesday , oh my word wish i hadn 't bothered , they sent out toasted bread and butter it was burnt , then they sent out what can only be likened to 'Gravey ' with sun flower seed on the top , the starter , soup was very thick and cold on a plate not in a bowl , the ' pate ' wow it was mush , the main my husband ordered lamb , it came with one carrot and a piece of onion , i had the fish which... The building was very interesting and the staff engaging but the food was not the standard I expected. The duck, which had been recommended as a special and to die for might just have been a piece of rubber. Breast of duck is a favourite but was almost inedible and pretty tasteless. Also the only vegetarian option, polenta ,looked bland and uninteresting . Personally I could not have eaten it. However, on the whole the presentation was great , such a pity it was not anything like as good as it looked.
Service is poor at best from teenagers which when you are paying £8 for a starter isn’t good. Food is excellent though but everything else is not to the same standard.
Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys '.
Had such a great evening here with the 14 course tasting menu. The staff were great and each course explained, we had two meat options, one pescatarian option and one veggie option and nothing disappointed. The grounds and building itself very cosy , comfortable and stylish, the food was top notch and all made for a great night, We will return.

The best part of the visit was the surroundings
