My tempura main was tasty and the portion generous. Ditto for the squid appetizer. Service was good and decor was tasteful, not at all shabby and not pretentious. We'd never have expected such good quality in a strip mall. View all feedback.
What Anabelle Ryan doesn't like about Bonsai Japanese:
The dining atmosphere was nice and the service was great. Staff was polite and the food came to the table pretty quickly. However the food was just okay. The proportion of fish to rice in the sushi roll was not balanced. It was more like a rice roll. The salmon was overcooked and a dry. Had it not been smothered in teriyaki sauce I would not have been able to eat it. View all feedback.

The sushi was even better than I remembered! It might just be the best in the area. Here's how I rate it: Food: 5, Service: 5, Atmosphere: 4. I dined in for dinner, and I was very pleased with my experience.
On the positive side, the waitstaff were incredibly attentive. When we noticed two rolls were missing, two different waitresses came to our table to count our orders and were able to identify what was missing. I recommend double-checking your orders, especially if you have a large number—ours included around 20 rolls. I read some past reviews mentioning issues with tipping, but we didn’t encounter any problems at all. The tip was already included in the bill, which comprised the subtotal for food and drink, sales tax, and gratuity. This is different from the typical practice in American restaurants where tips are not included in the sales tax. Moreover, the staff communicated in Mandarin and Cantonese amongst themselves and with the chefs, which is a significant advantage if you speak either of those languages. As for parking, there's plenty available in the free parking lot, even on a Saturday at 6 PM. **Service:** Dine-in **Meal type:** Dinner **Price per person:** $20–30 **Parking space:** Ample parking **Parking options:** Free parking lot

Hubby and I had a bento box and terriyaki tofu. Both were delicious. The broth soup was also very flavorful and not overly salty. Service was efficient and timely. Waitress asked to refill drinks before glasses were totally empty. We'd definitely co.e here again to try other menu items.
