What harrybch doesn't like about Giovanna Canu:
Disappointing as it appeared to look like a genuine local find. However note the disclaimer on the menu saying the food is basically all frozen but only if they run out of fresh. So basically it is all frozen. Wine was good though. View all feedback.
Good dinner in the trattoria. abundant dishes with quality raw materials. kitchen dairy. good quality price

We went there because of the recommondation and the good rating on this website. Unfortunately I have to say, that this was one of the worst dinner we ever had in Italy. The waitress was kind but the courses we ordered were served way to fast. We nearly had no chance neither to enjoy nor to finish our course before the next plate arrived at our table. The octopus salad we had as our starter was quite good. Fresh fish and some potatoes, however a bit less for the requested price. The pasta was heated up, watery and missing the italien and fresh flavour. Accomplished by some old parmesan out of a plastic package. The fried calamari for secondi piatti tasted even more fishy then they smelled. Furthermore the grilled squid was far away from beeing soft and fresh. The plate of grilled meat was full of fatty meat, one salsiccia and some bacon. For sure tastes are different, but regarding the fact that we spent one hour by eating three not vindicated highly priced courses, for sure not freshly prepared, I am not going to recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would like to mention it's a pity that there was no excuse like a free offered dessert or some grappa as we explained that the dinner was far away from being good.
It took us many years of visiting San Giovanni before finding this hidden gem! We had the dorado, tagliatelle, parne fratau and everything was extremely well done and served very nicely! It has an very cozy terrace in the back and also a pretty inside dining area. Since it is not on any main road it is easy overlooked which makes it even better once you discover it! We will definitely come back!
This restaurant was a short distance away from most of the restaurants in La Caletta, a short distance from the harbour. It was well worth a visit though. The staff were amazing and our whole group enjoyed their chosen meal. The service was excellent and the food was prepared freshly for us.
