Southsea, indeed Portsmouth as a whole, is rather a wilderness for vegans so we were pleased to find Smile when we visited the area on Saturday 5th April 2014. It serves standard cafe food all day breakfasts, sandwiches, salads, roasts, omelettes, chips with vegetarian and vegan options clearly labelled. Smiling is a charming little family-run café located in Southsea. It doesn't serve overly complicated café fare, which is a refreshing change. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about vegan and vegetarian needs, even though the café isn't exclusively focused on those diets. They always have at least one vegan cake available, and their vegan fry is absolutely fantastic!

Don't expect to find a full English vegan breakfast in Portsmouth. However, this place is a gem. While it may not cater to every vegan preference, I appreciate that it offers a classic café vibe suitable for everyone. The large vegan breakfast features vegan sausage, hash browns, baked beans, and more. I'm very impressed!
