Super cheap and filling healthy bowls, been around forever. I like that they only serve one item. The tali sauce is bomb. They give you extra avocado if you order the bowl vegan.
Best $6 meal in pdx ... I have been appreciative of their healthy food bowls for over ten years ... the special sauce is oh la la ! !
When I was eating at Yes Please on Vancouver, the owner told me about The Whole Bowl which was located directly across the street. So of course I had to try it. I had learned that it was a grab and go kind of place so I took along my own reusable bowl and cutlery with me. The staff person was very friendly, and informative and accepted the use of my bowl. The staff person was also vegan and told me that for the vegan version they don't add sour cream or cheese but add extra avocado. All good for me. The price was 8$ and was filling so a good price for what was served. The kitchen was simple since they only serve one item their bowl. I like that they used brown rice in their bowls rather than the usual white rice. I was surprised by the olives never seen olives in a rice bowl before but it worked. They have their formula a simple one item eatery. Easy for them to prepare and serve, and it made it an interesting operation. I see too many eateries offering way too many items on their menu. The Whole Bowl shows that if you do what you are good at well and pass on the savings of the striped down equipment and ingredients you need onto the price on the menu that it will work for the customers and the owners (they have several outlets in Oregon so it must be working for the owners as well . As with several other places that offer bowls it is all about the sauce they use and the sauce here was good. On the whole, the meal was quite good and for $8 very good. Strange how money affects the appreciation of the meal. Good balance of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins and therefore a complete meal. They do not offer any inside seating but there was a table and chairs on the sidewalk and I ate my meal out there (it was not raining yeah! . It would be great if eateries like this promoted people bringing their own containers because well, we are just creating garbage with all of these containers. When I had a cafe, we offered 50 cents off when people brought their own containers/plates. Win for everyone and the planet.
