When I grew up in Singapore, it was excited to try this recording of hainanesian chicken rice. Was very tasty and very close at home. Chicken was very tender. Soup was excellent. View all feedback.
What Alexander Tenette doesn't like about Nong's Khao Man Gai:
Second time having khao man gain, the first time I had it was a couple years ago at the food truck and it was light but flavorful. This time around everything seemed pretty flavorless. Chicken was tender and moist but needed some more flavors. Broth was bland and the chicken skin was a bit underwhelming. The pepper sauce saved the dish as it added some kick and much needed lift in flavor. We ordered the peanut sauce... View all feedback.
Sooo good. The sauce is the kicker. We had the same main court that was very good. The chicken rolls with peanut sauce were wonderful, and the liver was also delicious. Soul warming food especially on a fresh day.
Update 3 years later: still delicious and worth a stop! Very recommended to check this place in Portland! I had chickens and rice in other places, but Nong is up there on the list. The place is small, but so I could imagine that it will be crowded all the time. We went on a weekend morning when they opened and could get seat without waiting.
It reminded me of singapore hainam chicken rice. The chicken was tender, the sauce and chili made it perfect. The rice was perfect too. Its hard to find dishes like this in the us.
A classic dish with amazing sauce! The Thai lime iced tea was a perfect pairing with their chicken rice meal! So fresh and delicious! The winter melon cilantro soup was light and there is complimentary hot tea. The shop closes at 2pm and has limited indoor and outdoor seating so def get there early!
Small and simple place with perfectly cooked chicken, and that is about it. Come for the chicken, but don?t expect ambiance. Quick service and tasty Thai iced tea.
