Best chinese food in Portland. I've been coming here for years and Chen is always kind and friendly.

Chen's offers exceptional Chinese food, certainly the best we've discovered in Portland so far. The only downside is that we can never seem to determine their hours of operation. I've visited three times based on the hours listed on Google, only to find them closed each time. There's no sign indicating their hours on the cart, which makes it frustrating.

The restaurant offers delicious Chinese cuisine, though some dishes can be a bit oily, which isn't necessarily a downside. The portion sizes are quite generous, especially for the chow mein. One issue is the uncertainty of their opening hours; they typically open sometime after 1:30 PM, and I've found them reliable on Sunday nights. It's important to note that they only accept cash, so be prepared for that. Everything is made from scratch, so expect a short wait after placing your order, but this is definitely a positive aspect. Just keep that in mind while planning your visit.

I ordered food shortly after they opened, and the total wait time was about fourteen minutes. I actually appreciate knowing that my food is made to order. The woman at the counter was very friendly, as was the man preparing the meals. The food was quite good for a food cart, significantly better than typical fast food, and it was a great value for the price. Overall, while it might not be worth a special trip, it's a solid option if you're looking for a quick bite.
