We really hate to see this local icon go! We always made it a point to stay around Regan's so we could get the great oysters and cold beer! This place is awesome!!!! We will miss y'all! ~Paige and Lonnie from Georgia View all feedback.
I hate writing bad reviews but unfortunately this place absolutely deserves it. Maybe it was the time of year, or the day of the week that produced such a horrible experience, we were there on a Wednesday night around 7 pm in November, but nonetheless, we 'll NEVER go back to this joint. We pulled in and there wasn 't a single car in the parking lot, that should have been our first sign. We were greeted quickly and in a friendly manner but that 's about the only positive from the rest of the evening. The place is old, smelly, and run down. The seats at the bar are completely torn and showing foam, same goes for the leather/plastic cushion around the entire front of the bar, full of holes and tears. There were 3 guys sitting at the bar watching and commenting on a show about big foot. (Think, Duck Dynasty with Uncle Si sitting in the middle. The bartender smiled and took our order soon enough, but they didn 't have any draft beer, nor did they have any liquor so no shots, no mixed drinks, no nothin '. They did have wine in single serve containers and several pre-made mixed drinks in bottles, a can of margarita, a bottle of white Russian, etc. I got oysters on the half shell. $12.95, a good price, but they came on a plastic lunch tray without ice so by the time they got to me they were room temperature. Also, this was my 5th time ordering oysters over the week at various locations in the area and they always came out quickly and fresh, not these from Regan 's, not only were they warm, but they took at least twice as long as any of the other restaurants. (Again, except for the 3 characters at the bar, my wife and I were the only ones there. My wife had oysters rockefeller and she said they were great, so all was not lost. The bartender disappeared for long periods of time and was very slow to ask me if I wanted another beer, my wife also asked about the price of the white Russian in a bottle and we were told it was wine price but she never told us what that was, nor did she ever ask my wife if she wanted to get it. The bartender was friendly, and laughed a lot but the service just wasn 't there. Finally, the oysters we had were actually from Maine, we were told that Regan 's oyster bed 's had been shut down for the next two years, I see some posts from last year saying that he only sticks with local oysters, apparently that isn 't the case anymore. The bottom line is that I 'm not some demanding jerk with high expectations when it comes to having a good meal and some drinks somewhere, as a matter of fact it takes a lot for me to be turned off by a place, but like I said in the beginning, outside of the quick hello when we walked in and a couple of friendly laughs by the bartender, this place is absolutely the worst in town we 've experienced thus far.
Out of oysters today, but the shrimp were sumptuous, and the man from Coventry couldn't have been sweeter. We will return!!
If you're in this area you may know that most restaurants close at 10:00. Many will reject new customers starting at 9:15. This was the case when a group of 9 and myself were looking for a place to eat. Thankfully we found this place and they reopened the kitchen to serve us. The food was amazing and the people were very kind. Don't let the look of the restaurant drive you away, it is an A+ place to grab a late dinner.
The raw and the cooked... My brother and I enjoyed a dozen each of the raw and Parmesan garlic Apalachicola Oysters. The staff are incredibly gracious and welcoming and Regan, the owner and namesake, is as salty as the gulf itself. We make it a point to visit Regan's Pub and Oyster Bar every chance we get.
I remember the day it was opened, good times and great memories!
