Met some friends for lunch at Rubira's on a cold Melbourne winters day. Were immediately warmed up by the friendly staff greeting and the very cosy fire. Apart from a little stuff up in our orders the food and service was great. All four of us enjoyed the meals. Recommend. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Rubiras at Swallows:
I had heard lots of great things about Rubiras so was looking forward to dining there. It is a very cosy pub with a gas fire burning which was very welcome on a cold Tuesday night in Winter. The wine list is very comprehensive View all feedback.
This is the popular fish restaurant of my mannes in the world. we have been on the way for 3 days and visit melbourne. fish and seafood are fantastic.
- aazing! fresh seafood, friendly staff, fast service and cold drinks. I had a request and this place was the answer I had read the reviews.
Booked online for Birthday lunch, requested a quiet table/area (if possible) . . . the area we were seated in, was extremely noisy, we couldn't hear each other, as the nearby tables were ridiculously loud, bogan types. We has 3 waitresses, none of which appeared very friendly at all, not even a smile, it appeared they wanted to be anywhere but there, also disappointing. The food was ok/average, not great, I specifically requested No onion in my meal, yep it came out with onion . . . sadly, my very weary looking waitress was no one to be found. Overall, the experience was very basic, staff lacked enthusiasm, food was ordinary, I just wanted to leave . . . disappointing.
When we made lunch catch up plans we didn't realise it was Mother's Day. It's been a long time since we went to Rubiras but I knew they were renowned for their seafood. Our table of 4 was located adjacent to the gas fire so it was a nice setting. Our attentive waitress advised there was flexibility with the item numbers listed on the menu for entrees so we ordered 5 bugs, 4 scallops and chilli prawns. Best for us was definitely the prawns with the bugs next and the scallops in their white sauce. There are multiple options for those not interested in fish but from the list of fish on offer I chose flathead fillets with chips. Then you get to choose what format you want them cooked in fried, battered egg wash etc As a side we ordered the tomato, bocconcini and onion salad. The photo shows the size of the serve and it was certainly filling and tasty. The service staff worked like a well oiled machine and we would happily recommend dining here.
I researched before I arrived in Victoria to find a really good Fish restaurant. Rubiras came up as the best. Now that I have enjoyed my first visit I want to visit them again. It was packed yesterday (Wednesday) when I visited. Excellent service every step of the way. Barramundi perfect. Then a very generous serve of King George Whiting, expertly cooked in panko . Crisp chips served separately. Lovely salad accompanied it. Appreciated that feta for the salad was served separately so I could control how much feta to use. The lady who served me was very professional and considerate and provided excellent advice re my queries. Serves are generous. Prices very reasonable. Great atmosphere. Definitely would like to visit again. Best book in advance as clearly this restaurant (with a long history) is very popular. Due to good service, good products and perfect cooking of the seafood. And nice atmosphere.
