Love the Ajax! Have been many times over the past 10 years. Great menu, amazing location. Best clam chowder I have ever had. Took some discerning friends with us this last time and they agreed. The other not-to-miss items on the menu are the baby back ribs and the halibut. So glad that the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding was able to help them a few years back. A great save! What Olga Stata doesn't like about Ajax Cafe:
We used to love Ajax cafe and it felt like a treat coming there. Today was an exception. Prices went up and the food we got lacked taste and quality. I ordered a sea bass special and my husband ordered a tofu steak. My 36 sea bass was so dry, it felt like chewing a rubber boot. It was served on top of undercooked beans. Local friends took us here for dinner. Husband and I shared a big delicious bowl of cioppino, full of shrimp, clams, scallop. It came with a nice, crusty herb bread. We also shared a side great salad.
We used to love Ajax cafe and it felt like a treat coming there. Today was an exception. Prices went up and the food we got lacked taste and quality. I ordered a sea bass special and my husband ordered a tofu steak. My 36$ sea bass was so dry, it felt like chewing a rubber boot. It was served on top of undercooked beans. After I told the server that it was dry she didn't apologize, but said she will tell the cook. The tofu steak my husband got was mushy and tasteless. We ordered a peanut butter pie and it was a mediocre cheesecake. For 90 plus dollars meal it was complete disappointment. We went here more than 12 times in the past and loved it, but after tonight we are not planning to come back.
I am way way too picky, but I absolutely LOVE this place. I had the Wild Mushroom Chicken Marsala and it was sensational. We sat on the deck and it felt like it was 1950, a time when life was good, people were mostly kind and there were fine restaurants like the Ajax Cafe.
Seared tuna was delicious! Nice local establishment next to the harbor.
Charming place with cool vibe. Owners work the floor themselves, food is delicious and prepared with care.
