This is a small restaurant however the service is excellent and the food wonderful. A sushi train for those who just want to keep eating or alternately a menu to choose specific items from. You can eat in or take away. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Port Izakaya:
I went there on someone's recommendation. I love Japanese food but this was disappointing. I had the Chicken Katsu Don. The chicken coating should be crispy but it was all soft and seemed under cooked. I couldn't finish the meal. The restaurant does have a sushi train which has very attractive fish tanks in the middle. Maybe the sushi was better, I don't know. Unusually for a Japanese restaurant all the staff, includ... Food tasted old, no cooking technique just tasted like defrosted out of a bag into a fryer then sit there for hours, didn't even see any Japanese working in there, we feel sick from eating it.
I popped in here for lunch and while some of the sushi was tasty enough the service was terrible.Ordered 3 dishes, 1 came out 10 minutes later but 20 minutes after that the other two were nowhere to be seen while the best the waitress could do was assure me it was coming, no apology and when it finally arrived it definitely wasn't worth the wait.In a small outlet with 8-10 customers it shouldnt take 30 mins to get an order of sushi and for that reason I won't be back...much better sushi and much quicker service is available down the road at another Sushi establishment.
Popped in for lunch, the basic items off the train was fresh and not bad, however items ordered off the menu took an age to arrive and when they did they were not well executed. The batter was heavy and thick instead of the light tempura so it overwhelmed the subtle favours of anything else. They are advertising for a sushi chef so may be worth a visit when they have one.
The food and service was great. It was one of the best experiences i have ever had in a Japanese restaurant
Stopped in at Izakaya for lunch during a day trip to Port Douglas. The sushi was very fresh and very reasonably priced, and well presented. Definately worth a stop for any sushi lovers while in Port Douglas
