Contribute FeedbackThe restaurant has been a long-time favorite, but recent visits left diners disappointed with poor food quality and long wait times. While the establishment has a fascinating history and loyal customers, aging decor and lack of updates are evident. On the other hand, some patrons still enjoy the romantic atmosphere, exceptional French cuisine, and attentive service provided by the owners and chef. Despite mixed reviews, those seeking authentic French dining experiences may find this gem worth a visit for a truly unique and memorable meal.
This little jewel nestled in the bush along hi way 101 is a treasure for our area. We've been coming on special occasions for years and also took our kids there to practice manners in a nice restaurant. I am a true fan of the poached chicken and I've never been disappointed yet. My husband has halibut every chance he gets and sometimes the salmon. He absolutely loves the halibut with stuffed veggies, herbs and crab inside. He also enjoys the salmon. He says it's always cooked to perfection. All meals come with a side dish that consists of mushrooms, tomatoes, vegetables and potato augratin. Oh those potatoes! Love the romantic seating areas and on Saturdays they have special music. If your lucky the owner will come visit and you can enjoy her stories.
Lovely atmosphere, romantic! Michele, the chef is fantastic! Our French Onion soup was perfection. The Halibut was cooked in a wine sauce, stuffed with leeks, mushrooms and crab. So much attention to detail. The rare jewel of the Olympic Peninsula!
The food itself was good. Seemed a bit overpriced, honestly. I 'm not too familiar with traditional French cuisine; but it was decadent and the rack of lamb along with duck was tender. It is the live music in this restaurant I had a problem with. The guitarist playing there seemed like he was practicing on stage. He ruined classical guitar pieces with the strum of his fingers; He would stop his songs by strumming his fingertips loudly. Another table asked the player how long he 's been playing in this restaurant. He answered, 3 years .
Such a surreal experience, it took me three months before I summoned the will to write this review. All I can say, is when we ate in it, this almost empty restaurant. With about more than one hundred tables all set up with full service formal China. In room kept at temperatures about 20 degrees too warm. With all of the frilly, lacy overly feminine touches. I felt like I was in an Episode of Twin Peaks. Or Northern Exposure. Decent freshly made food, was overwhelming doused in heavy cream sauces. Classic French straight out of the 1950s. Wait staff so comically inept that I felt sorry for them as we laughed hysterically behind their backs. They didn't even know how to chill wine. To add insult to injury. They charge extra for tables of TWO. In a romantic restaurant none the less. I felt really sad for the 80-90 year old owner. She was very sweet, but I sure hope she is keeping this place running out of sentimentality or to keep busy as opposed to needing the money. There is so much I could comically write but I will leave you with this. Kind of difficult to get to even though right off of the highway. Follow the signs as you go in about two loop to loop circles. Yes you are on the correct path. But perhaps you should Stay away for the Owls are not what they seem.
