While visiting Adelaide on Holland America cruise ship MS Massdam, stopped off in Port Adelaide on a 40 degree C day for a coldie or two. An excellent selection of tap beers available including preferred Coopers. Service was very friendly. But being a Monday, they did not serve meals. View all feedback.
What Allie Brekke doesn't like about Newmarket Hotel:
Four of us dined here 4 May 2017 on very quiet. All meals ordered together but 2 came 15 mins ahead of the others with no explanation. Seafood platter was sparse and soggy. Not impressed. View all feedback.
Nice cozy place to catch up with friends. Food portions were generous. The salad bar had a good choice. Service was quick and courteous. Definitely a place to visit if you are in Port Adelaide.
Been there on many times had a drink also a dinner while playing eight ball competion over many years came across this painted mural on the back wall brilliant more wanted
We patronised this recently upgraded establishment thanks for a fantastic deal on Groupon. Two course dinner for four people with wine to the sweet tune of $55. First impression of this hotel is that of contemporary simplicity in a historical building. You won't be wrong in guessing that they did not invest a lot in the interior fitout. Simple basics with warm neutral tones fill this place. The facility is modern and pleasant. Prime example being the automated restrooms. The offer had wine as being part of the deal, but none of us felt like drinking, so they kindly wrangled us some lemon, lime and bitters instead. The deal between the winemakers and the owners doesn't allow for substitutions, but the staff were super duper lovely and accommodating and let it slide. So five stars to the ladies serving that day on customer service. For starters between four people we shared a serve of garlic bread and chilli cheese fries. A serve of fries and a serve of bangers and mash was ordered for the accompanying toddler, which proved to be way too much. Both servings were ridiculously generous. We overloaded on potatoes in a matter of minutes. For my main, I had the seafood plate, but asked for my fish and prawns to be grilled instead of crumbed, which they obliged. Mumsy had the oven baked barramundi with roast potatoes. The barramundi had a nutty crust with a pesto sauce. It was amazing! Very well-seasoned and cooked. My brother had the pork ribs which on face value looked dried, but was in fact perfectly tender and the meat fell easily off the bone. My sister in law had the Newmarket Mixed Grill. WOW, was that massive! She enjoyed it thoroughly. The only complaint was the huge serving size, I believe she only got through one third of the dish. I also like to note that you have full access to the salad and vegetable bar with every main meal purchased. I definitely rate this establishment based purely on the quality of food, the staff and value for money. They are a hotel which serves your typical pub meals like burgers and schnitzels. However, they also extend the menu to include variations of contemporary dishes as well. We can all feel the touch of Winter, which makes Newmarket a fitting place to visit if you fancy a hearty meal. I would even go as far as to say that this is easily one of the best value hotel in Port Adelaide.
We came here today to use our Entertainment voucher which was a really good idea and I am glad we decided to. The decor was casual and comfortable we sat in a booth that was so comfy I propped the screaming baby up in the corner to waggle the (high quality) napkin in her face! They only had one vegetarian main option a Spinach and ricotta veggie burger which I had minus the bread. It was very nice and I would eat it again (would be better if they had a gluten free burger! The salad and veg bar was a refreshing change to your stock standard salad bar because it had different options like cous cous and tabbouleh (and I LOVE tabbouleh). I had to breastfeed halfway through my lunch (Somehow she always knows when I am eating) and I felt really comfortable and private in my booth. The staff were friendly and with our voucher our meals were an absolute bargain! We will be back
Well, what a night we had at the Newmarket Hotel. No stone was left unturned in the quest to make this a **** experience. Food was the type of ordinary that requires some effort, service was sullen and patchy and the decor bland. The one star is for the inventive urinal that makes you feel like you are small enough to stand in it, weird but I liked it. The risotto was unrecognisable as a risotto, always a bad sign, with a mess of egg and cheese and a few rice grains. Other 's dinners were equally shambolic or dare I say surprising in way that makes one wonder if anyone in the kitchen had actually trained in the culinary arts at all, at any time. Equally, those serving had no discernible training on service beyond that which may be learned from a few episodes of tedious Summer Bay narratives. That is not their fault, the management of course must train staff or hire well. Long story of why we ended up there, but suffice to say that low expectations were fallen short of: avoid it unless you are truly desperate.
