What a lovely little surprise this establishment is! My partner and I set out from our hotel in search of an evening meal in Poperinge and are so glad we found this restaurant. The food we had was simple but absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The portions were enormous and, despite being famished, I struggled to complete my meal. I cannot stress what a wonderful atmosphere there was within. The proprietor was really welcoming and spoke excellent English. She was really attentive and cared for our every need. The locals that were also there made our meal so much more enjoyable. Once they discovered we were approachable they proved eager to learn our opinion on a variety of subjects and were surprisingly knowledgeable about British politics and our way of life. They were a delightfully welcoming group of gentleman and I felt like we were the best of friends by the time we departed back to the hotel. Very friendly service. Popular cafe-restaurant. There is something to criticize in terms of meals. The mutton chops are delicious; nothing to complain about. The fish stew is a real disaster. Fish stoemp where you can hardly see which fish you are eating. All mixed up in a kind of fish stew. Scampi with curry reasonable but nothing to write home about and shrimp croquettes the same. The wine list is very rudimentary and should be able to offer better wines for the prices asked. Chilean or Argentinian wines for example... Price-quality is average (I would say 6/10) although one cannot expect much better for those cheap menus. Parking: In the street in front of the door. Usually enough space.
