This is one of my classics in ponferrada, which I've gone on many occasions. their situation is unbeatable, facing the castle, and in summer they mount a terrac... read more This is one of my classics in ponferrada, which I've gone on many occasions. their situation is unbeatable, facing the castle, and in summer they mount a terrace at the foot of it, very nice especially for dinner under the illuminated castle. this restaurant is very famous in the city, and is one of the same owners of the hostel the oak, which is located on the back street. the inside of the restaurant is very curious. it has two heights, street and basement, and is decorated in a very rustic way, with lots of wood and stone. the upper floor has a large central hole, from where you can see the whole ground floor, being the tables arranged around, in a kind of corridor. On the ground floor you will find the bar where you can do it, so it is better to order table above to be quieter. the letter is very wide, and you can eat both rations to share and write. specializes in traditional and typical cuisine of the region of the bierzo: bread, battalion empanada, sausages, morcilla, cod to the berciana, iron ear, roasted meat, tortilla berciana with pepper. as I've been many times, I've tried many dishes, and the ones I've best. the products are of first quality, and the rations very abundant. As for desserts, all made at home; and especially recommending the famous layers of granny cake of the cookie with chocolate and cream. the deal is familiar, and except on one occasion when the restaurant was overwhelmed by the people, they were quick to serve. the price, about 20 30€ per person, depending on whether they are rations or a la carte. in any case, a highly recommended site with a good price quality ratio. it is appropriate to book, especially on weekends.

The price? two dishes, dessert, bread, wine and coffee 32€. I did not think anything expensive considering the quality of the price. Of course a place I'll recommend.

Service is very average, but that’s the same at all the places in town. You get the impression that you’re annoying them by turning up. Toilets, as usual, could be a lot better, cleaner and smelling a bit fresher. But it’s right next to the castle and the food is tasty
