Las Pencas Restaurant

I like to go to this restaurant because of the atmosphere the rustic decoration make you feel like if you are in the country, food is great I love the coffee with a taste of cinnamon...The servers are very polite and helpful.

Had a great meal here. Nice atmosphere but not well travel by locals. We were the only table the hour or so we where there. I would return here again.

We were staying at the Rosarito Beach Hotel, about 3 blocks away. I asked the front desk for a recommendation for barbacoa and they sent us to a carnitas snack bar-type establishment about 2 blocks away. Not what I envisioned. We walked another block and I happened to look across the street and saw Las Pencas and the big sign advertising barbacoa Borrego. I almost RAN across the street! It was a Sunday night and the only guests were people drinking and participating in some very loud karaoke. I almost walked out, but the very nice waiter led us to the back of the restaurant where the sound level was a little more tolerable (barely). There were many things on the menu, but why order cheese enchiladas when you're at a restaurant that specializes in barbacoa? We got the barbacoa special for two. It started out with the traditional consommé & toppings, followed by a huge plate of roasted lamb, with a platter of frijoles, guacamole, and cactus salad, and fresh hot tortillas - MORE than enough for two people. My boyfriend had two Margaritas and I had a glass of the top shelf wine. Our bill came to around $48. It's not cheap food, but it was the best meal I've had in a while. I really could have lived without the karaoke - really. It was awful. But the food? The food was delicious!!

Was here on Saturday night 3/7/14, it was pretty empty, so service was good, the waiter sugested Borrego but since it was good friday, we went with enchiladas with cheese side with rice and beans and to drink a michelada was also good.

Every time we visit Rosarito we try and make sure to eat breakfast at this restaurant. Food is always delicious and service is always great! To be honest we have never had lunch or dinner but I'm sure it's great food as well. Love eating outside. Very nice place.
