Beautiful resort. It's huge, probably too big. I think because of the size they lack some quality control. Food and drinks were just not that good. And getting restaurant reservations was very tricky, but others had no issues. I have been to all inclusive resorts in Aruba and the Dominican and had much better food and drinks. The drinks here had an odd after taste. Like sugar substitute. I love a good rum punch and i... View all feedback.
What PRINCE K doesn't like about Barceló Maya Beach:
Major issue. I come in a big group of people set for 8 premium rooms reserved about 9 months in advance. We make sure to call in frequently leading up to the reservation to make sure we are set. We come to check in and they tell us that they have booked most of our rooms out. They try to place us in more standard rooms without offering compensation for the situation. It's advertised as a 5 star hotel but very far away from the 5 star standards in Europe. Would be more like a 3 star hotel. Plus points: The beach and pool area are beautiful The bar is nice, good choice of alcohol people are friendly The bed is confortable Negative points: The reception is not competent, they charged me the wrong amount and then I had to come several times to the reception to solve the issue they created. In a 5 star hotel, you expect a better service. The food is of very low quality, not refined taste and deserts are not eatable. The rooms looks like 80s style and are old. We had water leaking from the roof and a leak under the sink. The wines included are not good at all (this is a shared opinion from other people I discussed with)

As I write this we are 4 hours into dealing with this mess as they keep handing off the matter from one representative to another. One of them being incredibly rude and ignorant starting that she'll put us in whatever rooms that she wants regardless of what we paid for. So far no progress has been made on the matter. It's unprofessional and highly disappointing.
The place is beautiful and the people are too! The food is hit and miss. The Italian and seafood restaurants were good. While the buffets have an array of food, having the food be hot is an issue. Be prepared to walk alot. It is a huge place. One tip I would give when visiting Mexico is do not forget the diareah meds. Often your system cant take the change one way or the other.
The staff is amazing! There is so much to do for adults and families. Food is not great but it is very good and there is a wide variety to choose from on the buffet. The mixed drinks are average. A little to sweet for my taste but if you are into fruity alcoholic drinks, this is your place. The resort itself is the cleanest I have stayed at. Highly recommend!
Had an amazing experience with the family never been to an all inclusive resort but definitely worth it super close to beach! And staff was very friendly and communicated very well. Once we arrived to Mexico shuttle bus was ready to take us to hotel with no waits and we were on time for everything definitely recommended
