Special experience dining here like always. Be careful not eat too much of their fresh hot bread. There are many options for both carnivores and herbivores. Make sure if you have a big group you alert them in advance. The owner is very involved with the daily operations and making sure all his customers are happy! View all feedback.
What Carol F doesn't like about Elizabeths:
The owners are extremely rigid. My party was en route for a 5:15 pm reservation when they called at 5:20 pm inquiring where we were. When I told him we were exactly 10 minutes away, he canceled our table and told us not to come. Even Manhattan restaurants give you a 15 minute window. I will not be eating at Elizabeth's EVER! 5 stars for what it is, which is not a fancy shmancy establishment, rather more like someone's home.....delicious food...and doting, pleasant service...some of the most unbelievable creations that I have experienced in a long time. Solid. Believe all the wonderful things that you may have read or heard. Mushrooms galore, in all their glory. Actually a vegetarian menu except for a meat special, and not in a delicate rabbit food sort of way, but you'll hardly notice . Simply amazing. Escargot was sublime...salad for 2 could easily feed 4-6 and was studded with chunks of feta/some type of firm cheese, watermelon, fennel etc in a wild forest of greens. Superb. But oh my, the fungi... make a reservation, bring cash Pittsfield is closer than you think.
We went right after they opened at 5pm and got seated downstairs without a reservation. Service was good. Our waitress explained the daily special thoroughly. We expected great food based on the raved comments and the small intimacy atmosphere. Unfortunately it 's not the truth. The owner bragged about their bread, claimed it 's the best ever and refused any disagreement. The truth? The sourdough bread was actually very dry and flavorless! Bummer! Next, the super popular tomato soup according to the waitress. The truth? Super normal soup with cream and corn. Escargots were very bland and mediocre. We ordered daily special polenta with Italian sausage. Probably the best among everything we had but still, nothing special. Neither my NYC friend nor I was impressed. Don 't understand the hype and won 't visit again.
I went back for the 3rd time and this restaurant is still phenomenal. All of the food, drink and lovely servers are outstanding. Everything they serve is just so fresh and flavorful. Make a reservation, arrive on time and you'll have a superb dining experience. While it is true the owner can be temperamental at times (personally he has only ever been polite and charming to me but relatives have confirmed that he can have a temper), honestly he could kick me in the nuts, spit in my face and tell me I'm dirt and I'd still go back for more! It's that good!
Preface: I've been coming here almost all my life and finally had an experience that warranted a review. We came here on NYE for dinner. I've tried the baked pasta truffle dish before and was deciding between it and Lizzie's Delight. I chose mushroom pasta because it sounded delicious! We got an amazing house made salad! Their salads here are always perfect! The break was good too! When my pasta arrived lets just say I was disappointed. The dish was swimming in oil, it had huge bland mushrooms, and it was dry despite the oil. The dish was just boring, I had to add more cheese to give it any kind of flavor. At that point I wished I had gotten the baked dish. Presentation was also nonexistent. For dessert I tried a homemade brownie with butterscotch chips and creme. Once again the presentation was terrible, the creme was sliding off a giant brownie that was way too sweet and just not as good as it was made out to be. Staff was great, salad was great, but this restaurant that I had such high expectations of really let me down. Even though we've been coming for almost 30 years, I think we will look elsewhere next time.
