We went to Pinnova for a cousin’s Christmas night out. We ordered drinks as we went, which were self-paid. The waitress was friendly, though she added a service charge. The starters were enjoyable, but I wasn’t a big fan of some of the main courses. The sushi platter is a must-try—the presentation is outstanding—just be aware that some of the rice was undercooked. Their grilled salmon is excellent! Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner
Having visited Pinnova several times before and always enjoying the food and service, we decided it would be a great spot for New Year’s Eve. We were very wrong! Our starters arrived at completely different times, with the last one coming out an entire hour after we had finished the others. This wouldn’t be surprising if the dish was complex, but it was simply raw fish in a supposedly spicy soy sauce. Then, we waited another hour for our mains. The wait might have been bearable if the food tasted good, but everything was utterly bland. The sushi rice, in particular, was puzzling—it didn’t absorb any soy sauce no matter how long we dipped it. While I understand it was a busy night, the manager should have anticipated the demand and either brought in additional staff or limited bookings and deliveries to match the kitchen’s capacity. Clearly, Pinnova is not the place to go on busy special occasions. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Dinner cost: £50–60 per person. The menu, which is usually impressive, failed to deliver this time.
