We were lucky to have lunch at the Milford Bistro today and to meet the new owners. My wife had the vegetarian Shepherd's Pie, while I had the Beef and Chorizo Burger. Both choices were excellent and when I said, after lunch, that I was torn between the burger and a vegetarian curry, I was offered a taste of the curry. I wouldn't say I made the wrong choice; rather, I have a good reason to go back. The menu isn't too... View all feedback.
What Звезделюб Катърова doesn't like about Milford Bistro:
The Muilford Bistro is under new management since last time I was there. I had the pork, tasted good at first, but as I ate more I realized it was overcooked and dry! i had a taste of my sons cole slaw. It was pretty plain tasting. The Sandbanks Baco 2015 was delicious, however. My friend had the vegetable pie which she said was quite good. View all feedback.
I've eaten at several different iterations of this restaurant over time (is it me, or is there a new set-up every year?), but this was the weakest offering. The sad part is that the food is pretty good, but the front of the house disorganization the night that we were there was conspicuous. Here are some suggestions for the owner:- when people call to make a reservation, please have the guy on the phone tell them that the restaurant doesn't actually take reservations, our 'reservation' was completely fictitious. - print out a wine list; paper is cheap and it's embarrassing when the server only identified "local white" and "French white" as the options initially- get some decent local wine, the current riesling might be the most insipid in the entire County- order management needs some work: I got the wrong dish, and at least 2 of the other 9 tables were served dishes with delays significant enough to have the chef come out to apologize. If you want to give it a go, the vegetable curry (sweet, not hot) and the local lamb sausage were nicely done.
Under chef-owner Ivan Williams, the Milford Bistro is again the place to go in the County for welcoming warm greetings in a romantic spot with superb attractively priced creative cookery from a passionate chef. Worth a detour, as Michelin would say. The chef cares so much about your experience he sat down with us following the meal to ask our opinions. Sam the server helped us through ordering local beers and wine, including Lighthall sparkling rosé and Grange Cab Franc, a personal favourite. We had a beautifully composed spinach/walnuts salad with Boursin and to die for house made potato coins or chips with aioli for starters and local lamb sausage and garlic mash and a veggie curry with a chicken addition that was also well spiced not just tossed on top. There was house-made flatbread and apple crumble with local berries. In our years of visiting the County it's been one of top places to visit but previous owners didn't get off the ground; now Ivan has and it's taking off soon to take very proud flight. We will go a second time on our stay here.
If you are in Picton, Ontario area the Milford Bistro is a must place to go. Mike the last owner is working very closely with Ivan the new chef / owner to raise the level of culinary excellence even more. Ivan was a chef at a posh fly fishing camp in Alberta before coming to the Milford. As with any new or change in operations there will be a hickup here or there. But like a fine wine this will improve over time. Over two weeks my wife and I went there 3 times. Ivan is very good at adjusting portions to suit your needs and of course the price reflects that. So if you down size your portion you down size your price. Mike's Veggie Shepard's pie was outstanding. Also the Lamb Bangers and Mash were presented beautifully and tasted great. I can't wait to see what Ivan has come up with when I return for vacation next year!
Six of our friends and ourselves had lunch at this spot and to a person found the server charming, attentive, but not over so, accommodating and everyone enjoyed their meals which almost sampled the entire menu. Food was fresh, local and nicely presented in a very quaint setting. Worth the trip if in PEC.
A little off the beaten-path so not so busy, which was great. Perfect if you are cycling around Prince Edward County, as they have indoor seating, and a few picnic tables with outdoor seating. It was very relaxing and laid-back. The server (owner?) was friendly and welcoming. We had the curry and the shepherd's pie -- some unconventional twists that made it absolutely yummy! We were too full for dessert!
