Great bbq restuarant. Brisket is smoked perfectly. Has a nice peppery bark. Way above average brisket. Sausage also was above average. Don't know if they make their tres leches cheesecake or not but it was dry and tasted like it was a day or two old. Stick with the meat. Didn't get a chance to try any sides. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised to find no line. The staff were very welcoming, and the ordering process was straightforward. Having tasted their boudin at the Houston BBQ Festival, I was eager for more. I also ordered brisket, a rib, and jalapeño cheddar sausage, along with collard greens and green chile mac n cheese as sides. I decided to take some extra boudin links, brisket, and a pulled pork sandwich to go. The main seating area, located at the opposite end of the building, was a pleasant surprise. It was well-kept and had a charming retro vibe that contrasted with the building's plain exterior. Although the number of tables was limited, there was plenty of seating available, and I didn’t notice anyone waiting for a table. I enjoyed looking at the hats from various barbecue joints lining the shelves near the ceiling. Now, the food: the moist brisket was exceptional—flavorful and, indeed, moist! The rib was also fantastic, boasting a sweet taste and perfect texture. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was delicious as well. However, I found the boudin somewhat disappointing—it was a bit on the dry side, not bad but not as impressive as the other meats. The collard greens had great presentation but ended with a slight bitterness. The mac n cheese, which appeared a bit dry on top, turned out to be creamy and flavorful once I dug in! By the time I finished my meal, I knew I had to go back for another jalapeño cheddar sausage link and another rib to take home. I mentioned to the staff how much I enjoyed the rib and learned they use a mango habanero glaze, which explained its outstanding taste. The ribs, brisket, sausage, and mac n cheese were definitely the highlights of the meal! My wife later tried the pulled pork sandwich and said it was very good as well. Additionally, I noticed that the restroom was clean, which is always a plus. The greater Austin area has numerous great dining options, including many fantastic barbecue spots that I love, but Brotherton's is certainly worth a visit! I’ll definitely be returning!
