I've been to... read more Café Carioca is located in the heart of Petrópolis, just a stone's throw from the Imperial Museum and close to many other attractions in the city. I've been to the café for the fifth time, and I've been through the menu slowly – everything from the finest. Well, the waffle with the Pão-de-queijo-Teig, which is so typical for Brazil, has to be used for European palates, and the croissants served with different fillings are all the more interesting – not as in France, differently! – and the Pastel de Belém tastes at least as good as in Lisbon. The coffee creations, e.g. the “Café Carioca” or the Frappés, are made with love, and the hot chocolate has cheered me very well the mood in a cool rainy afternoon; in the mountains of the Serra dos Órgãos it can become delicately cool. Not to mention: the café also offers a small selection of local craft beers, because Petrópolis is also known for its many small and large breweries, not least the traditional Bohémia. My choice was the “Isabel”, a kind of Munich Helles. The staff of this small café is friendly, pudding and competent (if I think of the service desert Germany alone... . The place could be a tick bigger – it's always well visited – but a bit of constriction is known to promote coziness.
