Great burrito but .... Loved the main meal, but was dismayed at the non-homemade chips. This place is so cute, waitstaff great, and as I said, the entrees were great, a place like this needs to up their game on the chips....Bagged chips have no place here, where everything else is so good. I ate here for dinner a few weeks back while I went home to Peensacola. It was pretty crowded at the night I left. The server was very friendly and had a great sense of humor! I just came out of the plane and had to recharge my phone – so he politely turned some tables etc. So I could be close to a socket. The food I ordered was delicious and lots of food! The spices went well with everything. I ordered a drink and it was delicious! I was in this restaurant before I go back I highly recommend it, on the 12th ave..
The fish tacos are the best item in the menu. The black beans and calculus were great. The other people in my party ordered the crab quesadilla and a burrito and only felt that the dishes were sufficient. I liked Jessica, our server. She was great. The food came super fast and we sat at the table without waiting. I really liked the experience.
As a Californian girl, I am skeptical of the demands of authentic Mexican food, but they nailed it with the Santa Fe enchiladas. The sauce was perfect, more like a mol sauce than the heavy red sauces favored by other restaurants. The Californian burrito was excellent, but needed more meat for the price. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa fresh. The margaritas are not to be missed.
Eat here for the better part of a decade. delicious food, large portions; what can you ask for more? Santa Fe Enchiladas are the bomb!
Cactus-Mex is really great Cal-Mex. As a Tex-Mex fan, I always looked a bit askance at Cal-Mex. But when I moved back to the Panhandle it became of obvious that the best to be had was Cactus-Mex. Originally a patron of the Twelfth Avenue Location, I visited the West Side iteration: It blows 12th Avenue away! I had the Chimichanga and my wife had the Tostadas: both were terrific. And we finished if off with the flan de leche. There is no better flan in this end of the world. If you enjoy great Mex food with a great presentation and really good service, run, don' walk!
