I had a deeply upsetting experience at Monocle today. While waiting to be seated with my small, well-behaved dog, a man at a neighboring table physically poked me hard on my shoulder and aggressively yelled, I don 't want your dog next to me, take him away. My dog was simply standing quietly on the floor; we hadn 't even sat down yet. When I informed the staff about this unprovoked aggression and physical contact, I was shocked by their response. I was told they could not address the man’s behavior because he is a friend of the owner. It is completely unacceptable for a business to prioritize a personal acquaintance over the basic safety and respect of their paying guests. Being physically poked and harassed should never be tolerated, regardless of who someone knows. I am incredibly disappointed in the lack of professional standards and will not be returning.
Has a very aesthetic and well-designed interior, and it is also a nice place to pick up small items and gifts. They occasionally host events as well, which adds something extra to the overall experience. It can get quite busy on weekends, and with that also rather loud, so it is not always the best spot if you are looking for a quiet coffee. Food and drinks are good, although not particularly standout. Service is generally friendly, though the experience can vary depending on the moment. Overall, a stylish and enjoyable café with a strong concept, best appreciated outside peak times.
The cheese quiche and flat white were very good. Service was polite and the overall vibe of the store/café is quite cool. It might just be me, but it feels a bit stiff for a place that wants to be lively. I do like that they keep tables laptop-free to focus on actually connecting with your friends while there.
